As far as gaining preference for admissions? I also have a "wierd" ethnic name assuring that I am not at all American.
 
While being Bosnian certainly makes you a literal minority in American medicine, the definition that the AAMC follows right now can be viewed here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=445413. So to answer your question, no you would not be considered a minority. What gives you a major preference when applying to medical school is a good GPA (3.7+) and good MCAT (29+ give or take), well balanced extracurricular activities, and a normal interview experience.
