Does biochem substitute orgo2?

Hey guys,

Some of my classmates said biochem could be substitued orgo 2.

I am not sure about this, i want to ask you guys if this is right or not.

some school does allow that but forgot what school it was... but not that many schools allows that policy

I think almost all applicants from Berkeley substitute biochem (MCB102) for orgo II.

Pacific will give you credit for either Ochem 2 or Biochem for the same prereq.

Biochem is to be used as an upper level bio, schools dont sub biochem for orgo2.

I'd no idea you can substitute biochem for organic. I think most dental schools require two semesters of organic chemistry? And biochem is only one semester at least in my university anyways.

To the OP:
Check your school's website and see if there is anything on this. Berkeley has a FAQ for this strange chemistry sequence. Granted, the excerpt below was for pre-meds, but it was also a link under pre-dental.

Bottom line, yes, some applicants satisfy the second organic chemistry course requirement with biochem.

"Normally, you likely don't need any letter to be sent from the Career Center. List Chemistry 1a and 3a as NON organic or general chemistry with lab. You may or may not recall that the beginning of 3a is general chemistry and then you get into organic chemistry concepts and yes, you CAN write down the name, which is Chemical Structure and Reactivity. To list a year of organic chemistry with lab, most Cal students list Chemistry 3b and the MCB 102 (or other) biochemistry class they have taken (even if they did not take a lab with the biochemistry class). Medical schools have been fully considering Cal students who have completed this sequence since this curricular change was made in 1991."

not in texas...both are required now by all schools

At my school you can't even take Biochem until you complete orgo II
