well, once sophomore year i set my kazaa to one upload. was busted - for downloading a movie i didn't even watch (half baked, go figure). received e-mail saying i had to appear before judicial committee. but, i paid a $30 fine, which i assume waived the whole thing. should this be considered institutional action? thanks for your input.

Unless your university said or did anything to you( ie probation, suspension, etc), then I don't think it is an institutional action. Was the judicial committee part of the university? If so, then maybe it is an institutional action.

No, dont worry about it.

I'd check with your school to see if this incident will show up anywhere on your transcript or pre-med committee letter (if you have one) before breaking out the champale.

i have a copy of the official transcript (although do the versions differ depending on who receives them? i.e. the student or AMCAS? b/c my copy does not have any GPA calculations on it. just course name and grades. i thought that was a bit unusual. i'm cornell undergrad btw). i don't believe it's on my record.

cornell sends them the same transcript they send you

Seek Legal Counsel. Did you pay a $30 fine to the university? Was the Judicial Committee one made up of your peers or others from the University? If so, it is institutional action. I don't think Med Schools will be particularly shocked and awed that someone was using Kazaa, though....

If those who ever installed a friend's copy of Windows or didn't pay the licensing fee on winzip after the thirty days "free trial period" was up weren't allowed into med school, there probably wouldn't be many med students around.
