Does courseload matter?

I had a interviewer commend me on taking 18 credits every semester, gaining all the awards that I did, while observing for PT school and doing extracurriculars/research all at the same time (I also graduated a year early, which made it clear that I would succeed with the rigor that PT school would bring). I don't think that a light load will necessarily take away from your application, but my personal experience was that the heavier load was "smiled upon", per say. I personally don't think that it would make a difference in you getting an interview, but I would be prepared to explain yourself thoroughly.

@02143 unfortunately if I were to knock it all out in a year, then thatd be 18 and 21 creds consisting of 4000 level bio hard science with their respective 3 labs a semester + the pt prerequisites....not even pt school is that hard. looking at pt curriculum its not even close actually. most schools give two sciences per semester and other courses included eval classes, clinical practice classes, ect. bunching them up would be suicide for my gpa and application.

I don't think it makes sense to take extra classes just for the sake of taking extra classes, unless you specifically want to raise your GPA. You have a high enough GPA, and with a good number of hard science classes, to get the attention of the schools you apply to. Just be able to explain yourself in an interview when they ask you how you know that you'll be able to handle an extremely heavy course load in PT school.
@engmedpt actually, I did all of my research for no credit because I didn't want to pay for additional credits (my university charged extra for over 18 credits).
I stand by my statement that said "I personally don't think that it would make a difference in you getting an interview, but I would be prepared to explain yourself thoroughly." You have a good gpa, and of course you don't want to ruin that by trying to rush things. I was just saying that one of my interviewers commented on the heavier load. A great gpa and strong GRE scores will speak for themselves on an application and will carry you further than a spread out course load will hold you back.

I got accepted to 3 out of 3 programs, and I am going to start in Sept!🙂
you've eased all my anxiety. now itll just be patience and continuing on with what ive been doing.
