Does deferring open up a spot?

    If someone requests to defer a year and its granted does that open up a spot for that current year? Also does that remove a spot from that next year that they are deferring to?

    Yes and yes. Each school has a certain number of spots for each year. If someone withdraws, drops out, or defers, it opens up a spot they will fill from their waitlist. If you defer to the next year, you are taking up a spot from that year, and they will accept one less student the next year.
