I'm applying DO and I was wondering if I would still need to go through the HPAC process to get a committee letter like MD?

The process is the exact same. The only difference is the two application companies (AMCAS vs AACOMAS). Many DO schools prefer to have a pre-med committee letter, and so it would be prudent to include one in your file.

Good luck to you.

You really should have a committee letter. You don't "technically" need one, but not having one, when your school has a HPAC, is a red flag.
Some schools require it, but if you can't get one then the alternative is a pain in the a**. One program in particular requires a 2 letters from a science professor, 1 letter from a non-science professor and a letter from a physician in lieu of a committee letter. x.x ouch!
