before I decided to be premed, I was econ major and took econ stat; turned out I really suck at it and I got a C-:scared:

then I switched to premed and got A+ in orgo II... but do that econ stat class count toward my bcem GPA? I read somewhere you can actually list your classes into various categories when applying but i am not sure.

Oh noes! A C-

I don't think that your Economics course will count in your BCMP GPA as a mathematics course (even though stats and whatnot is an essential part of learning econ). However, get in touch with your school to see if it would count as a Mathematics course.

Yes and no. It can be BCPM if you want it to be, but it doesn't have to be. The statistics course I took was listed under a sociology department code so I could get credit for my major. I ended up using it for my BCPM, and was verified with no problems. If I had never classified it as math, however, I'm sure it would have still been verified just fine in my AO.

It's BCPM. However the system isn't perfect. So you could put it not under math, and the applicant service could by accident miss it during there check. But however I'm going to tell you right now all statistics class do count as BCPM and if they see it and judge it as such it will be labeled BCPM.

I'm hoping that my psych stats class, A, is counted as BCPM. Another thing, I've heard of some non-math department stats classed not counting towards the math pre-req. So unless you have a year of calc, that's something else that you need to consider.

I put econ stats as BCPM, and it was unchanged. I don't know if it would've been changed had I put it as BESS.

i already took a year of cal... i seriously hope this C- is not included, my gpa is already not that good to begin with

You'll have to check to make sure. Is your C- in your previous major or just one class?

If it has the same prefix as the rest of your math classes it's going to be included.

C- just in that class, but I also didnt do well in physics but I already retook it and got a B. Those bad grades are the reason my gpa is 3.2 rightnow...

btw the class is listed under ECON department with ECON prefix

it's an economics class then, not math.

I asked a med school dean of admissions about this very same question, and she said that a math class isn't a BCPM class unless it's in the math department. For my school, that means the course number looks something like "MATH 125." However, I hope you guys are right about using non-math-dept classes as you want... I really want my Public Policy and Development-based Stats class in my BCPM 🙂

That may be true at their medical school, but I know that my psych stats class was treated as BCPM at some schools at least. I only asked my top choices though. So for those that WANT to do it as math for a similar type of class, just label it as such in your primary.

If you DON'T WANT it however, you might be able to get them to ignore it as a math class if you don't treat it as a math class on your primary application. That'll be up to you, and I bet you'd get it verified either way.
