So I know a few students here in the UK that came from Canada, straight from highschool (and thus no BSc) and are planning on doing CaRMs in the next couple years.

We're wondering if having a BSc helps at all when matching? Obviously, Program directors in Canada will be more used to interviewing people who are in their late 20s (instead of mid 20s) and have a bit more experience in research, publications, etc.

So are people straight out of highschool screwed? Or does it not matter at all as long as you perform well in your MCCEE + Canadian electives?

I've been reading on this forum about how competitive Canada is getting...so I'm guessing having BSc (and obv MSc/PhD on top would be even better) must only help?

having a BSc is not going to be all that beneficial...mainly cause everybody has one anyways. With a masters, alot of people have one nowadays since alot of folks didnt get into med school right away and did other things. Its becoming common to have an MSc nowadays. PhD though is a definite plus since its not as common yet.

oh I agree with you 100%.

But what about the ppl that are straight from highschool..who have no BSc...are they screwed then...if like you say, BSc is standard and MSc is quite common...

i dont think so. I think it matters more down the line when you are actually looking for a job in a major centre (once you are done your training)
