Hey,
I was wondering if being an IMG hurts fellowship applicants as much as it does residency applicants. If you have done your residency in the US, does where you graduated medical school from matter at all?

Absolutely. You'll be competing for fellowship slots against AMG's, and in general fellowship PD's will choose AMG's above IMG's.

There are some exceptions. Some programs always pick fellows from within their own ranks, for example. In that case, it might not matter at all.

Competition is also dependent on geography. I know many IMGs who have gotten into fellowships by choosing to live in less-popular regions of the country.
