I wonder if it even matters whether you submit your application on May 16th or even in mid-July?

I thought that AADSAS processes your application in the order it was received. Then six-eight weeks after your application packet has been verified, AADSAS will mail it out.

Why I ask this is because I've submitted my AADSAS app electronically on May 25th. However, they still have not mailed out my application to my designated dental schools.

On the other hand, if another applicant submits his or her application two weeks ago, gets his or her GPA verified and assuming that all LORs have been received by AADSAS, I'm pretty sure my application and this other made-up applicant's application packet will be mailed out either this week or next week right?

What's the sense of stressing out waiting six weeks when this other hypothetical applicant just had to wait two weeks to get his or her application packet sent out? 😕

In addition, some of my friends just wonder why the hell would I send my application to AADSAS in May. Some other dental school applicants whom I know, are going to submit their application to AADSAS either at the end of July or at the end of August. I'm the only one in my predental club to submit my application in May. They think that I'm either "impatient" or "gung ho" about going to dental school. The club's advisor also told the members that it doesn't matter whether an applicant sends in his application in early June or at the end of August. Is this club advisor on drugs or what?

But if you submit your application in August, won't the dental schools not receive your application from AADSAS until September or early October?

the school does not look at the application until august or sometimes
september...well it depends on schools
dental school are not amateurs~~~
good solid gpa and dat will rule in the end
if sumbitted at latest in the end of July...

3.8 gpa and 23+ dat who submitted the end of july will win
3.2 gpa and 20 dat who submitted on may

It definitely makes a big difference in terms of when you apply. My advice: the sooner the better. I mean, what is even the point of waiting unless your waiting for some form or something to get through? I remember that I applied early June last year and my application was sent out mid-July so it does take AADSAS a while. I believe that the applications of people submitting in July will not be released by AADSAS to the schools until August. good luck.

Technically, it does not matter when you submit, just when your application is complete (verified).

This would be true if your application is verified at the same time as this hypothetical applicant.

Im probably that hypothetical applicant.. I submitted my application on June 12th.. and thought this was late (spent the last week finishing my Personal Statement).. 2 of my transcripts were already at aadsas and the last just got to aadsas on 7/12

today (7/14) my GPA was verified and im hoping that my stuff goes out to school in the next mailing.. probably wont though right?

Is there a que for the mailings or does everyone that is verified go out on the next mailing date?

From all the admissions offices I have called, it doesn't really matter when you send in your application - as long as everything is received by August. They don't even look at them until then. As long as your gpa is 3.5+ and you have a decent DAT score, it's not such a big deal. Example: You have two applicants with similar gpa/dat. DentistWannaBe1 sends his application off May 20 and DentistWannaBe2 waits till July 10. Okay, the admissions committees sit down to review applications in August and both applicants have completed applications lying there. Fair game for both if you ask me. If it's a toss up between the two, I think the real decision will be made based on the interviews. That is my two cents. BUT...it's nice to send everything off early JUST to make sure all your things get processed and AADSAS doesn't screw something up and your application is incomplete when the reviews begin....

does it even matter if the LORs are recieved by AADSAS?

In some senses the timing does matter. The replies above are right...it doesn't matter when you submit, but it does matter when you are verified. If you submit on may 15th, but your transcripts don't arrive until July 12th and you get verified the next day, that means all the other applicants who were verified in June and early July are ahead of you to be sent out.

After verification, AADSAS says it takes between 4-8 weeks to send out your packet. if you got verified in early June but still haven't gotten your packet out by late July, you can call AADSAS and ask what the hold up is and have a legitimate reason to complain that your packet hasn't been sent yet, but if you didn't get verified until, say, July 15th, and you call on August 10th, the operator will probably give you the brush off and say "you have to wait between 4-8 weeks. Call back in a few more weeks." You could ask for their manager, who would probably tell you the same. So verifying early gives you a little more leverage to harass AADSAS about getting your apps out by August.

Beyond that, there isn't much advantage it seems like. Most schools don't look at the packets they recieve until august. If you submit way after august...you start losing out a little because the admissions offices will have already started looking at applications. One admissions officer explained it to me like this, which is pretty obvious really.

If they get your application in august with about 500 other initial applicants, then you are competing against 500 applicants for about 100 openings. If you look good, they will call you for an interview.

If they get your application in late september and have also received another 1000 applications between august and september, then you are now competeing with 1500 applicants for 100 openings. If you look good, they will still call you, but now your chances of standing out are getting slimmer.

and so forth and so on as the year wears on.

Finally, LOR will not hold up AADSAS from sending your application to a school, but most schools won't look at an INCOMPLETE application. So just cause the dental school got your application on July 30th, if you are missing minimum letters of recommendations or your DAT scores, your application will sit there untouched until those documents arrive. At least, all the california schools I talked to said this is how they deal with incomplete applications.

I'm convinced it doesn't matter when you submit your AADSAS application. Either May 15 or May 16 - whichever date works best for you.

But seriously, AADSAS is such a frustrating process to work with that if you haven't submitted yet you'll probably want to start taking beta blockers now just to make sure you don't stroke from the constant obsessing about "early" or "late" or wtf with AADSAS. Once you submit I'd suggest taking at least three weeks off before even thinking about contacting AADSAS or reviewing your application. I say this because it doesn't get any easier.

Next it'll be secondary apps and how do I know if the school wants something and should I fedex it back or is postal service overnight fast enough? Then you have interviews and photos. Don't try to overthink this or you'll end up pretty miserable. This is a long and trying process.
