I was told that school's talk to each other and that it does not look good if I cancel an interview. Is this true?

Basically, I will be hearing back from one school before an interview with another school. If I do get accepted to that school, I don't care for the other interview, but there are still other schools I would still like to hear back from. Would this possibly affect my other applications?

What would be the best way to cancel and interview? E-mail, phone?

well it's not very funny.

no, it's not going to affect your chances at other schools. think about what you're asking.

how do you turn down an interview? how did they offer you the interview? if it was an email, respond to the email and let them know you would like to cancel. if it's right before the interview date, call them up so they have a chance to invite someone else.

this is not rocket science.

No reason to be short with me. This is a nerve-racking experience, and I want to make sure I am doing things in a proper manner. I was also told about the whole 'schools talk to each other' thing by someone involved with the admissions of a school. I was just wondering how widespread that actually was.

Why should you declining an interview matter if you already got accepted to your dream school? Or if the one you have an acceptance for is higher on your list, and you don't envision yourself attending the other school? However, one could argue you wasted your money if you applied to a place you wouldn't go to.

Why not free up an interview slot for someone who might actually want to go to that school?

I have the same question, basically i find out from my top instate school tomorrow, and have an interview on Thursday from another instate school. would it be rude/low if i cancel the interview the day before? I would not go to the school if i accepted in the other one.

Should i just go and out of courtesy, withdraw my app post interview?

If you withdraw a day before your interview they would probably be pissed (which would only matter if you care that they were pissed or not). In that case, they can't even get a person to take your spot and it's all in vain. I'd say go to the interview. You might find out that you really like the place, who knows.

Funny how some schools don't even send you a paper rejection letter yet people think they somehow have time to "talk" to other schools to tell them that one of their thousands of applicants canceled an interview....

the thing is though they called me a week ago on the phone and offered me the interview spot on 7 days notice becuase someone cancelled and they thought i would be able to make it on such short notice because i live so close

I will probably end up going though, i might end up liking the school

why would the school care. if you have no intention of going to that school you are doing everyone a favor by canceling your interview and not wasting everyone's time. around this time of year, when acceptances are released, plenty of people cancel interviews and schools understand that. adcoms are busy people, why would they call random schools that you may or may not have applied to? and what would they even tell them; that you prefer school X over them? I know this is the pre-med forum but this is still a little paranoid.
