Hey guys. I'm feeling really stressed out right now. Not just about school but a lot of things come into play. My question is how bad does it look to take a quarter off and regather myself?

doesn't look bad as long as you can adequately explain it....

remember, NOTHING specifically looks terribly bad (Except bad DATs), you just have to know how to frame everything into an overall good application.

If you regroup and come back strong, youve got nothing to worry about.

If you regroup and come back swinging and missing, then you may have some explaining to do.

No. If you need to then take a quarter or two off and don't think about school.

Mr. G-Man:

If you are stressed out about life in general, your best bet is to take a quarter off to re-gather yourself. Schools may ask about it, but just tell them the truth. Just make sure when you return, your grades don't suffer.

IF your grades are hurting and you are not performing well, you better take some time off. Since the two most important things for getting to dental school is GPA and DAT. The may or may not ask you why you took some time off, and most likely they are not going?

By the way, during your time off, you might want to get involved with some aspect of dentistry such as: research, volunteer, and shadowing to show that your enthusiasm.

That's a great idea. Take a break from the studying, but do something that you wouldn't be able to do while you are in school. Travel, and call it "culture exploration" or there are lots of organizations which take 2 week trips to some foreign country for humanitarian aid. Hey I've heard that IRAQ needs some dental assistants, you could take a little work vacation to the middle east. 😉
