well, a portion of the rankings (whether you agree with them or not) is dependent on what residency directors thinks of the medical school (i.e.- reputation of the school). Also, if you look at the top tier schools, there are impressive match rates to the top notch residency programs. So to a certain degree, I think it's fair to say that it does matter where you go to school.
However, that doesn't mean that going to a lower tier school will mean that you will get into a lower tier residency program. My sister graduated from Temple Med, and she and many of her friends did quite well on the match. Granted, I don't think that Temple as a whole did as well as, say, Hopkins did. But good grades, good LORs, and good board scores will make you very competitive regardless of where you went to school. Just my two cents! Best of luck!
