Does anyone feel selfish, out of touch, or guilty speaking to med schools about your application, when they are probably dealing with crisis situations in their network of hospitals, not to mention how they will deliver education to their existing students? I know that's a loaded question, but in light of everything going on, it feels odd to ask about financial aid, or other normal questions you'd ask at this time. Would a letter of intent be viewed as callous and out of touch? Thoughts?

PS - Please spare us the negative energy - there's enough of that naturally occurring right now.

Ya often admissions is a different set of people than actual clinical staff and preclinical educators and curriculum designers, many of the staff‘s full time jobs are admissions

If it helps you feel better, remember that the ongoing crisis is touching all of our lives in one way or another. I wouldn't feel guilty about speaking to them about your app.

I agree with gonnif. Medical admissions staff are generally isolated from the day to day operations of the hospital and the education of medical students, with the exception of the MDs who conduct interviews and teach. My guess, if you call admissions and ask for feedback is you will get folks who will talk to you about your application but perhaps not until after April 30. My program specifically stated during the interview you can contact them for feedback after the cycle.

Med schools, despite the current crisis, still need to fill next years seats.

Don't bother asking about the status of your application.

Asking how they will deliver education to their existing students is for interviews, not applicants or wait listees.

LOI are treated as lies unless you can demonstrate convincingly that you'll turn down a Harvard/Stanford class school for them.

Most definitely a loaded question since you are only looking for others who agree with you.
Honestly I’m not. I’m trying to tread these rough waters, but I’m having a hard time waiting for things to happen. Like everyone else.

Thanks everyone. My favorite guilty pleasure is seeing red notifications for all the topics I follow on SDN.
