I have completed 2 years of GPR and passed the NERB already and hold the license to practice in at least 2 US states. I have been working for 1 year but I sort of feel limited and still in limbo... if buy god's work my personal life make me to move to a state that will not give me a license, I don't know what will happen... I am just so confused now, in one hand I feel applying for 2 year school programs would be so much waste of my time and money.. .on the other hand it would have the good feeling of stability that no matter were I end up in 10 years + I would still be elegible to practice... the more I think the less result I get. one day I am more enclined to go to school, one day not. please if anybody is out there with similar situation and if you guys have any advise for me it is so appreciated. thank you.

Pray to God....as u said "the more I think the less result I get"
where u did your GPR? In Ny?

wow 164 visits and only 1 reply, how generous and helpfull of you guys I am totaly impressed with power of international dentists, maybe this why they treat us this way, because how ever they push us we roll with them instead of uniting and telling them that it is wrong for each state to have so much different regulations as apposed to medical field that everything is pretty much synchoronized in all states. well I guess this is why we are always dentists not docotrs!!!!! to each its own!!!!!!!!
by the way I did the GPR in ohio GDCH if it helps.

Did you rather want 164 "I don't know" replies. Okay here you go my friend; "I don't know".

aint you eligible for wreb?
that will add more states where you can practice, if that is what you want.
Otherwise I don't see any reason for you to do another 2 years of program just because "something might happen in 10 years"
good luck

I would not move from the states that allow you to practise with the GPR. In thsi economy, I wouldn't take another huge loan, esp with the jobs decreasing in our profession.

I am in the school right now, and if i am in your shoes, I wouldn't even think about going back to school. You will lose two years of your life, and spend a lot of money.

I think, if you are sure you can stay in a state which allows you to practice... It would be great ..If you think you have chances that you can move to other states where you can not practice... It is wise to go back to school...and that is my personal opinion...

I think A lot depends on the situation. Frankly even I don't feel going back to school is a good idea bcoz of the huge money that will be involved. Even I am an FTD with 7 yrs of pvt practice... having masters in oral surgery... and 3 yrs of teaching experience...all from India and I am trying to get into a program that will allow me to practice in the state of NY where me and my family are entrenched. I am appearing for my NBDE I tomorrow.. just in case any program wants me to apply with the score. SO i think you should stay put. Also you should check with the regulations for allowing license to sumbody who has a license from a diff state. I think some states have rules to allow license to sumbody who has a practicing license in a different state. Just a suggestion..

From what I know, I think you can transfer your licence to any state if you have practised in a state for more than 5 yrs. I got this info from the associate dean of a dental school. so it should be right. you did your 2 yrs of gpr, passed the boards & the nerb & you are a licensed dentist now without the burden of a huge loan. I dont know whats making you even think about going back to school. once you are licensed , no matter what degree you have, its all falls under the same title...dentist.

yup...exactly the same I hv heard about AEGD program..u need to practise 5 yrs to specific states after that u r free to practise newhere in US...
