GPA: 3.7 (3.63 bcpm and 3.83 non-bcpm)
MCAT: 522 (I think it's equivalent to ~38)

3ish years of solid research (paid position, a few poster presentations, can talk passionately about interests, etc.)
plenty of clinical & non-clinical volunteering
100 hrs shadowing
good amount of employment and leadership

I basically applied to all the Texas schools and then all of the fully funded MSTP programs:

OOS:

Johns Hopkins
Pritzker
Emory
Medical University of South Carolina
Mount Sinai School of Medicine
University of Alabama
UC San Diego
U of Minnesota
UNC Chapel Hill
U of Wisconsin

TX Schools:

Baylor
Texas A&M
Texas Tech HSC
Dell Medical School
UTMB
UT Houston
UT San Antonio
UTSW

Thank you. I'll bump one last time for more input.

522 is in the 36-37 range. Your GPA is on the low side for MD/PhD programs and while that MCAT is strong it's only about 2 points above average for MD/PhD programs. That combined with the fact that there will be others applying with greater research credentials and I don't think the top schools are realistic such as UChicago and JHU. You can be competitive for your in-state programs however.

False. I'd say a 522 equates to a 38-40 on the old MCAT, as it's at or above the 99th percentile. OP has nothing to lose either way. He's applying to all of his in-states and will likely get accepted to at least one of them, so he might as well apply to whatever MD/PhD programs he wants to apply to. Further, he only really has a couple top-tier schools on his MD/PhD list.

This was the data I referred to where 522 was 97th percentile. But your link appears more up to date so I'll leave it at that.

The competition at top MD/PhD programs is beyond fierce. A 3.7 which is below average for the average MD/PhD matriculant combined with research experience while solid doesn't include alot of the accomplishments top MD/PhD candidates will be applying with tells me the OP probably shouldn't focus their effort on JHU type schools. A couple top tier schools though isn't an issue and the OP only listed a few; it's just a matter of not getting carried away and having alot of reasonable schools OOS.

Yeah, sorry if I seemed critical of you. I just felt like your conversion was a little too conservative, given the data released recently. But I do agree with you on the GPA point - OP's seems a bit low for those types of programs. I'd assume they have an abundance of applicants applying with 4.0 GPAs. Every little glitch probably hurts you more when applying to those programs.

Yay more comments!😀

Yes, I realize I have a few crazy, crazy reaches on my list. Honestly, my dad convinced me to add JHU and Pritzker after finding out my MCAT score (even though I argued that I have zero chance regardless haha)

My top 3 choices are:

UTSW ( I would die of happiness if I got into their MD/PhD)
UT San Antonio
UT Houston

I still don't understand why my thread has such a crazy view/comment ratio though😕

Hopefully I'm not getting greedy, but if an adcom could tell me if I have at least a decent chance of getting into MD/PhD for UTSW, UTSA or UTH, it would really help quell my anxiousness. I honestly have NO idea what to expect from this process.

#Goro #gyngyn (I think that's how you tag them? not sure)

Thanks everyone

I'll tag them for you (its with @) @Goro @gyngyn

Your best bets for MD/PhD are in texas. There is also an MD/PhD forum here if you have more in depth questions.
