Hey guys!

Soon I will be applying for several Masters programs. I am hoping to get in to a counseling program, and I really do not care where it is located.

My when I graduate my gpa will be in the 3.2-3.3(bad first year) range. My major GPA will be in the 3.5-3.6 range. Will this help my chances in getting in to a program?

Also, when some colleges say they look at the last 90 credits etc.., this means they are just looking from my well, last 90 credits, and determining their avg gpa and then not look at my accumulative? Sorry for these questions, I am new to the Graduate level admissions!

Thanks!

I am not sure exactly how it works but I do know a lot of schools focus on both your overall GPA and your Major GPA. I would imagine it will help that your gpa in psych is higher then overall. You're GPA should be fairly competitive for a masters in counseling program especially if you don't care where you go.

The only way to know for sure is to go to the applications and take a look.

They will specify how they want the GPA calculated. Most often, for psych apps, it was cum, last 2 years, and psych major.

Good luck.

A lot of the master's program I looked at wanted both, so they'll take the last 90 (which is good for you), but they'll probably also look at your psych GPA overall.

Thanks for you replies everyone, it helps me relax knowing what odds I have. I suppose it also helps that I am going to volunteering for a Crisis help center as well. I will probably have 150-200 hours there. Hopefully that is enough to be considered.

Again thanks guys!

Your volunteer service will help a great deal. It will make you stand out as an applicant (in a good way), and it always helps to have that little extra. Sometimes it will make all the difference.
