Hi,
I scored a 10, 12, and 14 in physical sciences, biological sciences, and verbal, respectively. Does this score look too one-sided? I took it without having taken physics, which explains the 10 in physical sciences. Should I retake it again later?

yea your 36 is gonna be a problem. 🙄

36 is above average for almost every school in the country. Don't retake, you'll be fine...

I am calling troll on this one.

VR>BS>PS in terms of importance, I would think. Looks fine to me.

Edit- I overlooked your asking if you should retake. Taking this into account, I 2nd the (completely insensitive) troll comment.

I'm gonna guess you're fine.

After taking physics, you'll probably score higher in the Physical Sciences section. However, it's quite unusual for re-takers to score as high or higher when the original score is 12+. Better to just run with your current score.

A 36 with that break down is not acceptable, you must retake...........

j/k

D.O. is all I have to say

you guys are so mean 🙄

i can understand the crazy neuroticism(is that even a word?) and paranoia that comes with SDN and being pre med and sometimes you really just need someone to tell you you will really be okay and that you are doing well and crap like that...
So, OP, congrats on an amazing score. don't worry about retaking and just roll with having killed the MCAT

Hey, you're my score-twin! 👍 (reverse bio and VR)

And thank you for taking the flaming that I KNOW I would have received had I posted.

I think we're fine, though. Presumably your GPA is higher than mine (?)

It would have been better to get 12, 12, and 12, yeah. I would have retaken if you had a single-digit score in one of the subsections, but you're entirely fine, unless you're talking top10 schools.

Hi,
I scored a 0, 0, and 0 in humor, wittiness, and overall troll factor, respectively. Does this score look too one-sided? I took it without having taken my crazy pills, which explains the flaming in my dumb thread. Should I post again later?

Fixed. And no, never post again please.

I guess SDN has got me a bit neurotic over this whole mess. It's hard to read through MSAR though and see the average scores for top ten schools in each section being around 12, even though I can take a step back and know that it sounds ridiculous.

Really!?!?! You're worried. If so, then most premeds would be panicking right about now! Just relax. I think you'll be fine.

HA. "Hay guise, I have a 15,15,10, should I retake?? OMG 🙁"

Before I even clicked on this thread I knew it was going to be some really high mcat score.

OP, if you don't mind sharing -- what's your GPA/major?

Clearly, if you look at my MDapps, you can see I'm at least somewhat optimistic about the 10-12-14 breakdown.

Even though the LizzyM-based med school selector spreadsheet says "Physical Sciences section is low" I think we should be just fine with a percentile score that is very high overall -- and ADCOMs should be understanding if you haven't yet taken physics.

Anyway, PM me if you have any other thoughts.

to be sure, a balanced score is what we are aiming for, but I think a 14VR would be intimidating to med schools. crazy smart. I got a 13VR with a balanced score, but somehow the 14-15VR mark seems like hawking level to me.

It's not terrible, but does raise some questions about whether you would be well-rounded enough to succeed in top programs.

sometimes SDN scares me..

its a world in where a 36 is described as "not terrible".

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek with my comments.

But that being said, it's all about your expectations and goals, right?

Most pre-meds on SDN are just interested in getting into medical school. That's reasonable. It's one of the most competitive things you can do in your early-20s, it's hard, and there's a lot of hoops to jump through.

But there are also the people for whom just getting in isn't enough. They have multiple high-level papers published, they are superstars on standardized tests, and have done really exceptional and unique things in their relatively short lives. They are shooting for top 10 schools, because they can.

A 36 is a great score, and make you competitive at most medical schools. But suppose you were routinely hitting 40 on your practice tests? Would you be happy or satisfied with a 36?

yes.

jk... i know what you're saying. sometimes its hard to relate to those 3.99's and 35+ mcats. like you said, for most ppl, its simply a matter of just getting in. i hate that i have to settle for mediocrity, but with my stats, id be happy to settle for less than mediocrity. in the end, i'll still be a doctor.

That's essentially how I feel. I know it's really not necessary to shoot for a top school, but I feel driven to do so because I think I'm capable of it if I push myself.

I have a 3.85 as a chemistry major, with a couple of publications under my belt. This is why I'm concerned with the 10 in PS, because I think it might look troubling to any of the top schools.

If anything that should probably allay ADCOM fears. I presume you are familiar with SDN gospel about bombing a section on the MCAT and making up for it by doing well in the class.

Either way a 10 is hardly bombing it. Or if it is, I'm right there in trouble with you.

I honestly wouldn't chance applying with this. Most people on SDN are gonna tell you that are some kind of "troll" or that you are just being "neurotic"...not true. I scored a little higher than you my first time and my premed advisor told me to retake because of my similar uneven spread.

I see a pretty big problem here. Don't post anything more on these forums until you come back with at least a 12 or higher in every section. Good luck and study hard! ttyl bff :*
