People who got their secondary says that this year, it's given out to everybody. But I still haven't heard from them yet.

Neither have I.
Their website says you have to be invited.

This is what the splash page right after you log into the secondary says...

About Your Supplemental Application Invitation
This admissions season, we are inviting all applicants to complete a Supplemental Application form and submit it by the due date listed above. Keep in mind that if your application is submitted after the due date above it will not be evaluated, and, once paid, your application fee wil not be refunded.

(The due date will depend on when you receive the email invitation...it is one week and recs are due two weeks after)

To anyone who has gotten the secondary; do they want letters of rec w/the secondary?
Since everyone will eventually be invited to do a secondary (still haven't gotten mine) is it ok to send our letters of rec there now, on the assumption the secondary is coming? I know some schools get irritated if they get your letters before they invite you for a secondary, but this may be different...

Wait until they ask you to submit your secondary application to send them your letters of recommendation. It won't speed up the process any to send them in earlier.

I'd probably call them up for this; I am assuming that 2 weeks should be enough time to get it to them after your invite, though. But, since they are offering the invite to everyone, they may not mind.

The deadline to complete the secondary is one week. Then, one week after the secondary deadline is the letter of rec deadline.

My my, what's with their rush, can't they cut us some slack?

Are there essays on their secondary?

Ohh yeahh...Northwestern's secondary makes Pritzker's look like a coloring book.

for those of us with premed committee letters, the rec's wont be in on time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That sucks.

Yeah, and they're screwing all the applicants with committees that won't be ready for another while.

I emailed them to ask for an extension on the recommendations since my school writes them and has a later deadline. I didn't want to tell all my recommenders that they have to send it in even earlier and to two different addresses.....here's hoping I will get the extension....

What a great way to select a med school class! Gee, let's see which applicants are in town and able to finish a secondary the week of July 23... and let's rule out anyone whose premed advisor is out of town in August. Those people would never make good doctors anyway.

I'm starting to be glad I haven't heard from NU yet.

Let's not forget the applicants whose last LOR writer skipped town and wont be back for 2 weeks, because they wouldn't make good doctors either.

Relax. If you aren't able to send in your letters of rec by the deadline, just let them know. They're not going to throw your application in the ash heap because of circumstances you can't control.

actually, in their email, they say that all material must be received by the deadline or they will be thrown out and the money you sent wont be refunded.

Not only that, but they'll send a couple of burly guys named "Lou" to come beat you up if you misspell anything in your essays. They know where you live after all.

Seriously, they will not throw out your application. The people in the admissions office are quite understanding about these things -- call them or email them and let them know if you need an extension for your letters of recommendation because your committee or whatever isn't done with it yet.

Does anyone have any idea how long these response should be for NU's secondary? I was trying to judge it, but fruitlessly.

I think it says just fill up the box...which is like 20 lines long

That translate to a little less that 1500 characters in Word.

i did email them to ask for an extension, but the extention isnt enough for me. i can't get my LOR until i go back to school in sept. and the extention was for sept. 1st. the canadian cycle is later than in the us, and i thought i would get all my LOR's together at the same time and send it out instead of asking my profs to send it out in parcels. had i known more about the us system, i woulda done this before i left for the summer. 🙁

i dont know whether they will throw out my app if my LOR come in mid sept, but i just dont want to write all those essays and send my money just to have them discard it. i may seem neuronic but i dont want my efforts to be a waste

I think the extensions are usually given for committee letters. Could be wrong though

Wends, PM me. I can walk over to the admissions office for you if you like, maybe see about a longer extension. They send out secondaries throughout the fall, so I don't see why getting a slightly longer one would be a problem, especially if you explain the situation.

I see what you mean, but you can keep typing in the box as much as you want...try it. hmmm 😕

Have many people received NU's secondary? Just curious...

My judgement is a lot got it today, a few got it a few days ago, and some have yet to receive it. But, as Dr.Thom I believe posted, everyone does get one, it's just a matter of when.

i didnt...and i dont think i shouldve gotten screened out, my numbers are not below avg... i was processed 6/30

yes, still no nw secondary for me! 😀 this gives me the weekend to work on the essays and for my recommenders to finish my letters. all of you out there, you know you'll get an application sooner or later, so just be patient and use this time to be thankful you might be able to avoid asking for lor extensions.

pleeeeaaaase don't come to day northwestern...pleeeeeaaase. :luck:

I got an extension for the recommendation for September 1st....which is doable since my school's deadline for recommendation is in mid August.

What I hate is the one week deadline for the secondary. It's like they just expect we'd all be sitting in front of our computer, eager with anticipation, waiting for secondaries to come in and start on them....some of us have other obligations too and can't drop everything to fill their secondaries in.

For peopel who haven't gotten it in...don't worry, I doubt NW screen, my credentials are not all that great, and they still sent me one.

Northwestern was pretty leniant with me last year with extensions and the like. Just call them up, talk to the right person or email the right person, and they will work with you.

The one week deadline for the secondary is the fastest I have seen, but it weeds out people, IMO, who don't want to go here, and that is part of the process of picking a good class.

for those of you who have received the secondary....was it in your bulk email box or in the regular inbox? (hoping i didn't accidentally delete it although i am watching both like a hawk)...

also, how MANY letters of recommendation do they want from those of us with no pre-med committee/how many are science vs. non science? thanks a million!!!

Anyone who was was processed by AMCAS after June 18 got a secondary from NW?

3 letters: 2 from science faculty, and one from a different faculty member. someone please correct me if i messed this up, because i can't find the page anymore!
i can forward you my email if you want, PM me; i don't know that it has any words that would directly suggest going into the bulk folder; you may want to call them on monday if you think so.

also, i was processed before june 18, so that could be a reason some people haven't gotten it.

Damn..how r they sorting the applications then.

Are they screening on the basis of MCAT scores....doesn't seem plausible 😕

I dunno..I don't think they lined them up by stats..it's possible though...they do have screening capability, as they used to screen in previous years.

Anyway, It might be by last name, amcas ID, SSN, as these provide easy ways to organize applicants.
