Does it really matter which residency you attend so long as you get your given specialty choice? I imagine that attending the more prestigious programs would better prepare you for a career as a physician scientist, but if I'm interested in just being a clinician, then does residency choice really matter all that much? If so, how does it matter?

Also, what do USMLE step I scores need to look like to get into a decent neurology residency?

Thanks!

of course it does. each residency program varies with respect to the clinical exposure you get, your attendings, the level of autonomy given to the resident, and opportunities for research. it also determines who your contacts are, your fellowship options, and possibly where you will eventually practice.
