Is there good job security for pharmacy?

Is there good job security for pharmacy?
No more than any other job given equivalent variables (compare union jobs to other union jobs and within the same state).

If all else fails, go independent. Borrow some money, rent out a place in an area lacking in pharmacies, and start your own pharmacy. That's the way to go.

Yes if you are in rural areas or states such as Alaska, Louisana.

No if you want to be close to civilization.

I live in the desert in Southern Cali, I work 13 hour shifts due to pharmacist shortage there.

To the OP, it's really about the individual. A great employee may find security in a field without any, because they can get **** done. An incompetent employee will never find it in a field rife with "security." I certainly hope you're not gauging career pursuit with regard to this phrase of "job security," because it is very misleading.

It depends on where you work. Big box retailers have to answer to shareholders. Shareholders always want decreased labor costs and therefore increased profits.
Other companies such as union hospitals have much better job security.

In the long-term no one knows about our job security. One thing is sure, increased automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence has the capacity to disrupt all workplaces. Both retail and clinical pharmacists could be upended by disruptive technologies. But how long will that take?
You can be assured that upper management in big box retail companies are hard at work trying to decrease pharmacist labor costs as much as possible. But it takes a while to change state laws, create new trends, and invest in new systems.

One game-breaking technology for pharmacies could be same day delivery. If amazon ever gets into the drugstore business with this model, it could majorly disrupt all chain retailers. Since they are already testing this model now for groceries, I can't help but think this method isn't that far off for drugs.
