Does poor vision that is corrected hinder an Ophthalmologist's craft?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello,

I'm a MS-III and have an interest in Ophthalmology but have poor vision. I wear contacts with a power of -10.0 in both eyes. My power has not completely stabilized yet and I was not a candidate for Lasiks.

I will most likely have to wear corrective lenses for the rest of my life. Will this be an issue with the microsurgery that is involved in this field? Some people have told me that it will.

I would be grateful if someone could post their input on the strain that ophthalmic procedures may pose on a surgeons vision.

Thanks.

For whatever reason, the majority of ophthalmologists are myopes, though usually not as high as -10. You'll fit right in! 🙂 Sometimes, I feel like the lone emmetrope.
