Does retaking a class replace the grade if its at a different school?

I was wondering if my original grade would be replaced if I took a class at a different school or if it had to be at my original school? I graduated in May '04 with a degree in chem but got a C+ in both Calc 2 and Physics 2. The rest of my grades were B's leaving me with a 3.05 GPA and a 2.79science. If I cant replace the grades than I would be better off taking upper level bio classes to boost the GPA, but if I can replace the grades I will. Thanks for your help.

Sorry docbill, could you please clarify - did you mean same class or same school? I read elsewhere that you can only replace if it's at the same school, so I'm a bit confused. I'm also in the same situation as the OP, with a 2.8 science or so after a bad experience in Orgo 1.

AACOMAS will only calculate the higher of two grades in a given course. Translation- if you repeat O chem and get a better grade, then only the highest grade will count. Doesn't matter if the classes are taken at different institutions.

Is this absolutely true? I was told in another post the it must be the same institution. I would love to take 1 semester of gen bio and gen chem over, which ironically i received C+s in. At the local community college it would only cost a few hundred bucks, and I know Id ace them

I transfered from one institution to another and retook a class - the newer class replaced the older one from the other school. Confirmed. Of course, why not contact AACOMAS and ask?

Sorry PhD2MD, I was the one who posted it had to be from same institution and that is what I had believed. You should contact AACOM because they are the final authority.

I took Developmental Psych class 10 years ago and did not withdraw properly, so I got a withdrawal F. Forward to now, I took Child Psych at another college. I took Adolescent Psych at yet another college. I contacted AACOMAS and demonstrated to them that Dev Psych = Child + Adolescent. They agreed and replaced my F.

So what if I wanted to repeat gen chem and gen bio. When I was in college those courses had lab components integrated into the class. I was looking into retaking to raise my grade, but where I was looking was lecture only. Would this count as a retake?

It's not likely to count unless the class closely approximates the other. If you had lab last time, you will probably need that component in order to count it as a repeat.
