Does shadowing a resident still count as shadowing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Seems to be fine, I spent more time shadowing residents than attendings. Maybe not the best idea to shadow residents exclusively, but it's still great experience, especially if it's an older resident.

depends on the school. i know of at least one school that explicitly states that shadowing of residents or fellows will not be considered as competition of their shadowing requirement.

Is it ok to shadow a resident? Does this still count as getting shadowing experience?
Yes, but you are less likely to gain perspectives important to the interview process on malpractice, insurance, billing, patient advocacy, the difficult patient, medical ethics, the Affordable Care Act, etc.

How so? If anything you get a better view of medicine by shadowing residents instead of attendings.

Seriously?!!? Probably bc it can't be verified?

Well, to be fair, we are supposed to figure out what physicians do on a day to day basis, not what residents or medical students do...so it makes a little bit of sense. Just like you don't want someone to base their whole decision off a TV show, you don't want students to get the wrong idea by just talking to (often overworked and grumpy) residents.
