Does the hatred stop or does it continue?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone... I wanted to ask if the hatred, jealousy, and negative competition of your "fellow" classmates in undergrad continues on to pod school or no?

This depends on the school you go to and the general nature of each person in your class.

Some schools and specific classes at some schools have been known to be more cut throat than others. Just depends.

How was nycpm during ur days K ?

I have never seen a perfect institution. Everything needs improvement all the time. In retrospect it was better than I thought while I was there. If you are independent and can ignore the environment around you you will do fine. Must take advantage of every opportunity presented and not listen to people that question why a podiatrist would need to learn internal medicine or general surgery...

O yea definitely, I'm looking forward to those classes actually. I feel that as doctors we should be well rounded as much as possible i.e. if a family member lets say complains of pain to you in their abdominal region you want to be able to diagnose it and come up with a possible prognosis and not look like an idiot. Furthermore the more well rounded we are, the more the profession looks better and will change public misconceptions and myths.

i.e. if a family member lets say complains of pain to you in their abdominal region want to be able to say "I am a podiatrist, while i may have learned possible complications that would cause these symptoms, I am not licensed to DIAGNOSE them. Please mom, go see our family doctor who will actually be able to treat/refer you to a doctor who can. Besides mom, I like feet, if I wanted to listen to bowel sounds I would have done gastro...nice toenails by the way."

LOL, that was funny dtrack.

I look forward to those classes - rotations as well. No doctor is supposed to diagnoses stuff on the spot-like in a restaurant, through email, or over the phone (though, I have seen that last one done). It would be good to have some information like Godfather said.

You would say it much more politely than I would.

Hellifino.

Its very deeply sickening how one day people will refer to you as a "doctor".

The Mrs: "Hey honey my stomach hurts..."
Dr. G-father: "Where at?"
Mrs: "Here" [points to LRQ]
Dr. G-Father: "Well the last time I was on rounds with the IM guys was 15 years ago but I'm sure it's appendicitis, we need to get you to the ED!"

[almost $2,000 in medical bills later...]

Real Dr. : "I'm sorry Mrs. G-father but you have a simple case of IBS"

[The Mrs. then proceeds to defecate all over G-Father's DPM degree]

Am I getting closer Natch?

Im not being one maaan

you spelled man incorrectly for starters....just kidding

but yeah you were being mean and you know it don't be telling people that they will be poor doctors that's just a low blow and you know it, knock it off-let's keep things positive!

EXACTLY for example like all of my uncles and my grandpa are all optometric physicians but everytime i tell them something hurts they give me their best guess but always tell me to get a follow up from a doctor that specializes in whatever thing is hurting me 🙂 you wouldnt go to a podiatrist for pink eye would you? no hehe

whats your gpa ?? what are your grades ?? if admissions weren't so low for this profession you wouldn't be on this forum ...

I think id rather be colleages with a jerk that knows his scope of practice instead of a bitter MD-wannabe who thinks he can diagnos everyones abdominal pain at the next thanksgiving get-together lol

wasn't their a Seinfeld episode about all this?

3.6 GPA
31r on the MCAT
2 different NCAA sports, All-American in one
2 seasons on the ski patrol
Work experience at a major hospital in India...
...all at the ripe old age of 21

Should I keep going G-father?

If admissions were up to par with our allo-brethren I'd be one of the few still getting into a pod program...

UW66, I'm guessing I'm the jerk who knows his limits? 😀

still arent going to get in anywhere for MD with that 3.6 man unfortunately...maybe west virginia!

lmao a hater in the hate thread!

ha would you expect anything less in the great and wise podiatry forums? haha all in good fun as usual!

PS i HOPE that nobody takes the teasing too seriously! I don't think anyone is really trying to be mean on here, we are just havin fun ....wait for my obligatory emoticon...... 🙂 ....excellent...

This may be a good lesson for some of those pre-pods who think like theta and don't think some of their scores are competitive enough for MD programs and are now applying to pod schools.

EVERYBODY from my University who has applied after meeting the following criteria has been ACCEPTED to an allopathic medical school. We typically send 5-6 kids to MD programs every year (only a school of 2,500 or so):

1. 3.6 GPA

2. 27 MCAT with a 9's in each section (10, 10, 8 is a higher score but does not technically meet this criteria)

3. 500 hours non-clinical humanitarian work (community service)

4. 500 hours clinical

5. Applications sent to at least 15 schools

6. Complete all pre-reqs required for admission (this one is mostly for the non-science majors who apply)

Again, my University has a great reputation with our own very large/successful state medical school as well as some private schools with religious affiliations. It has also been determined by our advisors based on comparing test scores (MCAT mostly) and the percentile of students who receive certain grades, that our students have grades that are deflated .1-.2 grade points when compared to students at state institutions. That may help as well since the cover of the committee letters they write for the MD kids (as well as DO, PA, and some DPM) explains this scale. It's been my understanding that many medical schools (including our state school and the school in the state to the south) accept this scale and would tend to think of my GPA as closer to a 3.7-3.8...may or may not have anything to do with our pre-med program's success.

Long story short, if you meet the above criteria and want to go the allopathic route...stop listening to theta and get out of podiatry. You stand a very good chance of getting accepted, unless you apply to west virginia which reserves about 95% of their seats for in-state kids. Apply to the school(s) in your state of residence and then fill the rest with private schools. Or just apply to Howard University, you'll get in there.

Don't forget those Caribbean schools either, all you need is a bank that will give you a nice loan!

you still dont get that I was teasing....shame

:luck:

LMAO you guys are ridiculous... I was all about self image as a podiatrist.. Im coming from the point how pods currently are still thought of as "an anyone can do profession/ foot pedicurist" ( which i disagree with totally and is changing rapidly)... so forget the friends & family members lol what i meant was..... lets say your having a convo with a MD/DO colleauge... would you want to look stupid if a medical topic other than the foot/ankle came up and you cant contribute effectively ? This is where knowing all that other stuff besides the foot will come in aid, its on the curriculum and taught to you for a reason!! thats all i was pretaining to from the start!! lol

Yes Dtrack youre definitely the jerk lol. I like jerks a lot more than nimrods though, 100%. Look at this pissing contest though, good god, i can hear the wambulance coming all the way from chicity!

2500s pretty small Dtrack, where are you at? must be somewhere west of the cascades. And whered you work ski patrol? white pass, snoqualmie? Im a big fan of mthood and always wanted to work patrol there, i was gonna try for either meadows or timberline with part of my year off but that fell through.

how often do you have these conversations? I assume you make this statement coming from experience.

how often do you have these conversations? I assume you MUST be talking from experience. I don't think your ability to contribute effectively is the reason they think you are stupid...

Do you think a immigration lawyer feels stupid going to a divorce lawyer? They are both juris doctors. Maybe thats why Merril Lynch went under, they made the mistake of hiring Family Law people instead Corporate lawyers

As my dean said, we need to be able to diagnose a problem, because if we do not catch it and refer it to someone else, we are LEGALLY LIABLE. Therefore, diagnose, refer, DO NOT TREAT. You can diagnose... or if you do not feel comfortable doing this, refer to their primary physician with your strong suspician of what you believe the problem might be. We need to know our stuff, bottom line.

thank you!

thank you!

still...you can help the fam out if someone has a sore throat or whatever 🙂 which is nice

and IF in the case that someone falls with some ailment or is dying in front of you, you can save their lives! that's kinda neat too 🙂 although thats not just physicians im sure a nurse or np could MAYBE save the life too 🙂

I hope that many of you pre pods are not a reflection of the incoming class because you will make the residency weed out process a little more demanding and labor intensive.

Some guys argue, bicker, insult and just simply know it all... Which will make for one big headache if anyone is stuck with them for 3 yrs.

this may be true, but an online forum has little to no bearing on what sort of personalities lie behind the guise of SDN, and one should not judge as such for any more than the "online" character of the individual...

its all subjective and there is no reason to be on the verge of trolling because of it.
