Hey everyone, quick question. When I was in college I had a few run ins with our deans, one in particular was kind of a not nice guy. Anyway, once myself and some friends moved the stall doors out of another dorms bathrooms and he got mad and I think we had to pay some fine and do some dorm service?? I say I think cause he liked to threaten and I don't think any of us actually had to pay the fine but I'm not sure.

Months later my car broke down when I was leaving for i think spring break and I stayed in the dorm a few extra days while it was getting fixed and didn't tell the deans. They had a meeting with me but were not mean about it, but then the one dean found out about the fact that I had stayed late at the gym one night and not given my student ID to a worker who had been really rude to me as I was leaving (I finished a set a few minutes past the closing time) and when the dean found out about that he made me buy her flowers and apologize to her.

I promise I'm not a dick (even though this probably makes it seem like it) but my question is does any of this count as institutional action that I need to list on AMCAS? Do the flowers count as a fine? Am I not gonna be able to get in because of this stuff?

People on here will most likely tell you to disclose things rather than keep them hidden, but as far as I know, if it's not on your record, I don't think you would have to (don't take my word as infallible). Do you have any idea if they have record of these things?

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's on my record or anything. I don't have much problem disclosing it but I don't want to hurt my app for nothing especially since I had multiple run ins with this dean it might look like I had a recurring issue.

Yes. Check with your Student Conduct office. They can tell you if it's on your record. Chances are, you would have documentation presented to you saying you received a sanction.

Stop causing trouble for yourself.

The bad news: the answer is yeah it's probably on a report somewhere and therefore if it is you'd have to report it

The good news: Most adcoms will likely find this stuff petty and dumb and as long as you don't write about it from an entitled perspective you'll be okay.

That doesn't seem like an institutional action, but its probably safer to report it. Honestly if you explain the context like you did, it doesn't make you seem like a bad person. However, not disclosing it, and having it come up later is probably a bigger deal.

(This advice is totally my own opinion lol I have no authority on the topic.)
