A friend of my boss runs a research organization...basically, major pharmecutical companies give him start up money in order to run their medication clinical research trials. He desperately needs research assistants (evidently, he has way more clinical trials pending than he has help). It would be unpaid at first, but might work it's way into a paid position one day a week after a couple of months. I'm not certain as to what I'll be doing (I'll find out Friday!), but I guess it'll probably be pretty benign...calling back trial participants, collecting samples, entering data, etc.

My question is...does this count for "research experience"? It's not exactly what I would think of as traditonal research experience (no test tubes, LOL). There are two physicians helping to conduct the clinical trials, and I think I'll be assigned to one in particular, so there's a good opportunity for a stellar LOR if I don't screw this up.

Anyways, just wanted to see what y'all think....

that definitely counts. it does not have to be with test tubes. i did not use test tubes during my research

Yes, clinical research = research experience

Thanks! This opportunity could last throughout my undergrad years...and I've got my fingers crossed that it might work out to be a decent part time job as well. I would *love* to cut my hours back on the ambulance, and take up the slack with a part time research job.
