So I tried applying for a position in a professor's lab and he said he only accepts people who had prior experience. However, he offered to train me over the summer and then help me apply to other labs afterwards.
Does this training over the summer count as "research" to write on your app?

Wow that's a very nice thing for the professor to do. I think whether the training counts as research or not depends on what you end up doing. But I wouldn't worry too much about whether it 'counts' or not right now. For now, I would do the training and try to find a lab afterwards. You may find that in the long run, this brief summer won't mean much anyways.
