I hate to ask because I know we get questions like this all the time.
For my limnology classes, it's we have an upper-division lab and we go out and do samples of different lakes and wildlands in the area, and go back to the lab and process. The local areas we go to use our data to guide tourists and such. It's also used to see how the lakes/wildlands in my area are changing over time.
Additionally, in my genetics lab, we are doing a semester-long drosophila experiment. We are basically sexing them and mapping out our own pedigrees and more.
Do these count as research? Or does "research experience" need to be done outside of the classroom, on your own time?
Thank you, and sorry if this is a dumb question.
