I would like to meet with other students on my campus and discuss primary care for at least 30 minutes every two weeks. No official organization would be created. We all would just meet informally. Also, I would bring some topics to discuss and help facilitate the discussion. Would my participation be considered a leadership position that I could put on my AACOMAS? Also, there is a motivation to put this activity on my AACOMAS, but it is absolutely not my primary motivation, which is that I am actually passionate about primary care, particularly Family Medicine.

Why not go ahead and create an actual student organization? Doesn't even have to be "official". Just make a facebook page or website and pin up some flyers around campus to recruit members. Then you could put that you were the founder/president, which really translates into a leadership position. Just enlist other students to join who are pre-health and have them give presentations as well. We had an organization exactly like this at my university.

It's a leadership position and one that's a great idea. I'm a proponent of anything that gets students discussing the current state of healthcare. Perhaps you could bring in primary care physicians on occasion to join your discussions. We do this now in our pre-medicine club and it's always beneficial.
Sounds more of an informal journal club. Again... why not make it official? Weren't you the one who asked about making this a part of AED? It doesn't have to be part of AED... it could just be a side thing.
I wouldn't say it's necessarily a huge leadership responsibility. Journal clubs (which is what this sounds like) is more of a volunteer-run thing. All you'd be is a discussion facilitator, which doesn't take much effort compared to an officer position of a club, or starting up an entirely new club (which is a TON of work... aye). But if you feel passionate about it... then do it.

I would be very careful with putting that on an application. Unless it's "100% Kosher" I would shy away from including it. If you include it you have to word it just right to make sure that anyone with a 4th grade education or better understands that this is not an officially-sponsored event which unfortunately will greatly decrease its value. If the application reviewer/interviewer thinks that you are trying to pull a fast one on them, that will greatly reduce your chances (even if that's not your intention).
If you can't create an official organization, then it would be a good thing to include in your essay but again I would think twice before including it on AACOMAS!

Agreed on that.
Just go write up a quick consitution outlining a few basic things about your organization, and then approach your student government to become a recognized organization by your university, then I would definitely use it on my AACOMAS app. Sounds like a good idea though.
+1 to Bala's response.
One thing about starting organizations properly is that you have to make sure that the club will survive when you leave. Meaning you have to ensure that there is someone (or a group of people) willing to grab the reigns, not only after you leave, but 10 years down the line.
The club has to be sustainable... and honestly a family medicine organization doesn't seem like it'll be too popular. Especially with pretty much every premed "interested in pursuing" dermatology or neurosurgery. 🙄
Starting organizations is something I'm very passionate about, so I can help you in outlining how to go about it if you want. But I just don't see a family medicine club surviving very long.... 🙁

I could have started an official organization on campus. I even had a faculty advisor. However, the pre-med advisor and the AED officers at my college did not think it was a good idea. Also, I believe that there would be overlap between this organization and AED.

Well you can't put "could've made an organization if I really wanted to" on AACOMAS. And as I said in my last post, if you really want to invest time into properly starting a club, make sure it's one that won't die quickly. Try starting another club... like habitat for humanity.
