Hey guys

Just was wondering how being a tutor for kids or high school students in underserved communities looks on an app? I have an opportunity to be a tutor and get paid for it....is that something dental schools like or should I go out and do more dental volunteering instead?

Thanks!

I was a paid high school tutor for inner city kids. It doesn't count as volunteering as all, but it did count for work experience, and given I had very little, I guess it was good to put something down.

Also, if you've done some dental volunteering, that's good enough. Just so you're exposed to the field, try to make yourself the most well-rounded applicant you can be. And if that means getting a paid job that will help pay for some of your groceries during dental school, then so be it!

ADCOMs aren't gonna think of it in a good way or bad way, IMO, I think it doesn't affect their opinion much.
