Ok... I am thinking aout enrolling in princetons MCAt prep course this summer... Its really detailed and i think it would be very beneficial.. and i also want to take the DAT after this maybe a week after the MACT. Is there anyone that has taken both exams and do u think the McAt prep course is good enough to prep my for at least the bio section of the DAT. I think the verbal and quant sections are different but i am not sure. I love both medicine and dentistry and they both have their pros and cons. i have been trying to decide about this for years now and i havent been able to come to a decision. So i am going to let my scores decide what to choose. I want to make a definite career choice by the end of this summer and go fullly towards it and start applying in 2007.

Be careful with that approach. My dentist's associate was an adcom for her dental school and she said that they threw away apps from people who had taken MCAT (they know if you took it or not). Dental schools don't like being considered second choice. So what I would do is really think it through and choose the one you are most interested in and take the exam. What happens if you do very well on both? Then you're back to square one. Be careful.

I haven't taken the MCAT, but the DAT's science section is definitely lightweight compared to that of the MCAT. You really need to do some practice problems for the PAT though...that section will kick your butt if you haven't gotten used to the different problem types and had some practice with them.

I never took an official MCAT, but for some reason my school lumps all the predents with premeds during the first two years. So I ended up taking about 6 practice MCATs because they don't have enough DATs...blah.

Personally I find the tests incomparable (with few exceptions). The MCAT requires much more thinking and concentration. The DAT requires far more memorization and speedy calculations. The only useful thing I got out of these tests was verbal practice. The MCAT verbal is a monster compared to the RC section on the DAT. If you practice MCAT verbal and get good at them, you will destroy the DAT RC section.

Princeton review will definitely pick you up for biology and ochem..not sure how much gchem they review. The PAT section however will require commitment and practice that no MCAT prep course will provide.

Good luck.

From personal experience, MCAT prep courses are geared toward MCAT and are therefore not good (sufficient) preprations for DAT.

Which school is this? You should let the OP knows so he/she won't apply there

I have taken the MCAT and the DAT, I got plenty of interviews and acceptances. in most of the schools is was not even discussed. And I know I am not alone on this, a friend of our family applied to both Med and Dent schools a few years ago, he had great stats and ended up getting into both.

to OP: the MCAT prep is a great start for the DAT bio section (since the DAT has Evolution and some Plant stuff that MCAT does not). As far as Ochem and Gchem - the MCAT course will be perfect for those sections! But don't forget there is no physics on the DAT, but there is math and PAT.

so the MCAT prep will be a great start for the science sections but you will need to do some more work on the math and PAT.

good luck. April is going to be a crazy month!

hopefully you'll be like my brother and score well no matter what...that lucky sob didn't study but maybe a couple hours for the MCAT and got a friggin 28....some of my friends have studied SO much and are trying hard to break a 24... 🙄
