Fall 07

Tennis
Issues in sports (a joke online class)
Biology 1\Lab
Life Science Calc 1
Organic Chem 1\Lab
Total hours=18

I want to get bio1/2 ochem1/2 done this spring.

Is this to much?

Biology im not worried about, but I have never taken calc, but im for the most part pretty good at math. but everyone scares me when they talk about organic, and obviously tennis will be my toughest class.

I will basically be spending my days\nights studying.

I don't think it's a tough schedule at all. I think you have a very well-rounded one. You can use tennis as an outlet from studying and dive into your sciences later on. Personally, I think bio will take the most from you if you want to do well. Ochem is more memorizing reactions whereas Bio is just blunt memorization. The schedule is definitely doable 👍

Don't be afraid of organic chemistry; it's a myth perpetuated by disgruntled premeds that it's such a killer. However I'll disagree with the above poster than it's "memorizing mechanisms." I mean, maybe your school was like that, but we were told our curriculum was specifically designed to make you understand the material, not memorize like some schools. Also, Orgo I isn't heavy on detailed mechanisms, there's a lot of background material.

Are you taking those courses as a freshmen or sophmore? as a freshmen, it might be tough cause of orgo. but if you're a sophmore... why you still on bio1 and calc1???? shouldn't be bad at all.

Biology is harder no matter what you guys say. You know why? There's more material. Ochem, you can reason your way through whereas you won't be able to answer what does ADH do if a person has high blood pressure? What direction will the hemoglobin curve shift if you are at a higher altitude?

Ochem questions in my opinion are memorization. What is the most acidic? What will happen after this you use these reagents? These are the majority of questions on the exam aside from the stupid arrow pushing mechs that are free points. The exam isn't going to say, please explain why this is the most acidic. They will give you 4 compounds and you figure it out.

By the way, instead of insinuating that my school just teaches memorization and yours is so good that you learn the concepts I'd do my research beforehand. My professor is a co-author of one of the most used Organic Chemistry Textbooks used in colleges. Look him up, Vollhardt you might see a word attached to his name starting with "Nobel" 😉. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you guys use it but I'm not going to go flaunting how good my Ochem department is despite other people's arrogance

Look at past threads before listening to this guy about the Ochem section. Look at what people use to do well on the ochem section for the DAT. You will find your answer there. People say the DAT Destroyer road maps work like magic. How can you learn concepts from the road maps?

If you want to do well on the DAT, it's just memorization. Never did I say I didn't know the concepts because I sure as heck do. I think that schedule looks more than fine because it has a good balance to it.

well actually im a junior, I was an accounting major until it dawned on me that accounting was boring and lame. Then i thought long and hard, and decided to work hard for my original career choice, dentistry. I have basically all of my gen ed done, just have to finish my bio, ochem, phys. and then my upper level classes. Im planning on taking the DAT next summer so i have to cram bio and ochem in so im better prepared.
