I'm a rising senior, I'm taking Orgo 1 and fall and spring. Then I'm taking Biochemistry the summer I graduate. Once I finish biochemistry in July, I'm taking my MCAT towards end of July and applying in August. My problem is I wanted to be a pharmacist for a long time until recently and the only experience I have is 2 and 1/2 years of pharmacy tech. Do you think it's smart for me to get clinical experience and volunteer during my senior year, take MCAT after graduating then applying in August or should I take a second gap year? Any input appreciated

I was also on a pharmacy school track. You absolutely need to get ECs outside of pharmacy and another gap year would be helpful to do that.

EDIT: I had >4000 hours as a pharm tech on my application. I also had >200 hours of other clinical experience to go with it. I wouldn't recommend applying without additional clinical work.

I was in a similar situation that you were. I was pursuing engineering until I was a rising junior. I actually did my first internship pursuing ChemE at the point you were now (summer between sophomore and junior year), and I quickly realized it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I took 1 gap year and am applying now. My two years deciding on a medical career and preparing for my app cycle gave me quite a lot of insight, and I'm excited to make more progress through my gap year and app cycle.

Thanks for the response guys, my only worry is, how do I get LOR from professors, a year after I graduate? I don't know most of my professors that well but I'm sure some of them would write my a letter of rec right now but would probably forget me in a year

Interfolio! Before you apply, just ask your professors to update the date on their letters.
