I got a 3.56 GPA at Rutgers University which is decent but not that great either. If I transfer to Virginia Commonwealth University and get a 4.0 the next two years, will med schools look down at my transferring because VCU is a lower tier school?

i am transferring to pay in state tuition and also to pursue my passion of playing the piano at home

Short answer: No.

but if you are only doing it to go make an easy 4.0...good luck.

but wont colleges think that maybe im transferring because VCU is easier

Is it "easier"? If it was to a community college or something, then maybe. VCU is a respectable university, with a medical school and all the other big stuff. I'm sure many quality pre-meds come out of there. I doubt they put that much thought into deciphering why people transfer.

Neither is Harvard, or UChicago, or USC. No one outside NJ or VA really knows all that much about either undergraduate program, and I'll be that's true of most Admissions Committee readers.

You'll be fine. There are many great pre-meds graduating from VCU that successfully matriculate into medical school.

Don't just assume you'll rack a 4.0 no big deal either.

Lol acting like rutgers education is all that and a 3.5 there is a 4.0 at vcu LOL

Just be able to explain your reasoning in a mature manner. Saying you hope to pull a 4.0 at VCU makes it sound like at least part of your reasoning is you have the perception that VCU is easier.

I transferred after my freshmen year because I was home sick. I interviewed at a school in the same state I transferred out of. Naturally they had some doubts. I explained I was an 18 y/o who had never really left home before, and now I was ready for it. They accepted it, and accepted me.
