According to Tufts University School of dental medicine website:

DAT Requirement:

*Please note new DAT requirements for 2009-2010 application cycle*
Test must be completed after June 1, 2007; applicants are strongly encouraged, though, to complete it before January 1, 2010;

Minimum Scores:
  • 16 Academic Average
  • 17 Perceptual Ability
  • 17 Reading Comprehension
  • 16 Total Science
The Canadian DAT is also accepted.
*Please note that the Admissions Committee will only consider scores from the first three DAT attempts.

The only concern I have is my PAT score which is 16 but the minimum is 17 for turf. Should I even consider applying for Tufts University? Does tufts university consider my application for interview?

you have to tell us your other stats. Acceptance is not determined by one part of the test.

My other stats are

GPA- 3.74(cum) 3.70(sci)

DAT
AA 19
TS 20
PAT 16
RC 19

My main concern is that Tufts University may not even look at my application because of my PAT score lower than their minimum. correct me if I am wrong?

Opinion: Tufts posts a minimum to avoid being called 100 times to be asked what the minimum is. But yea, go ahead and call 😛

I would say you have a chance since your GPAs are high. Make sure your other parts (ie: LORs, personal essay...) of the application are strong.
And it doesn't hurt to call and ask.

They state a minimum for a reason. Tufts received over 4500 applicants this semester. So, thousands will be able to satisfy the minimum requirements.

to the OP, you already know you have a 16 in a section where the minimum is 17.....the tuition might be lower if they didn't have to employ someone to sit by the phones to answer these questions.

I'm pretty sure we already paid for that as part of the tuition.. 🙁

It's not always a bad idea to clarify. USC posted on their website that 8 h of English is a requirement, but upon calling them I learned that only applies to those who do not have completed degrees.

Honetly, if you want to apply to tufts I say go for it. I applied to a school that had a minimum score of 18 for RC and I had a 17. I thought I had NO chance, but this was one of the schools that interviewed me. If I hadn't messed up the interview I would have had a strong chance of getting in. You got nothing to lose.

There's no reason not to call. They're not going to ask for your identity and then hold it against you that you called...

OP,

Submit your application anyways. School take manymanymany factors into account when considering your application - remember to stay confident and positive throughout the application process. you really have no idea how they will feel when they get your application. don't let those little "minimums" scare you away 😎 you know you got ittttt

but yeah, I can speak from personal experience... there was more than one dental school with a clearly stated "minimum" PAT. my pat was lower than the minimum at these schools and I was offered an interview at both of them, put on the waitlist at one of them and accepted at the other.

they definitely look at the whole package, just send them your app...can't hurt! wish you the best of luck 🙂 👍

Just because multiple schools accepted or interviewed you when you had a PAT lower than the minimum does not mean that Tufts will do the same.

Thanks everyone for replying! I called Tufts university today, they told me that admission committee will not consider my application for interview unless I have minimum score in all four catagories because the applicant pool is competitive. I think it is not a good idea to apply tufts because my application will be rejected regardless of my other credentials.
