Does this mean I'm basically on the wait list?

Dear 2004 UIC College of Medicine Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions for the UIC College of Medicine has thoroughly reviewed your medical school application at its November meeting, and no final decision has been made in your behalf. The Committee will continue to review your application, and we will update you of its status once a month until a final decision has been reached. The Committee expects to complete its work in June 2004. Please call the Admissions Office on Thursday at (312) 996-5635 if you have additional questions.

Sounds like Continuing to review.

Continuing to review = waitlist.

UIC does have a waitlist

However, they don't create a waitlist until like may. So you could be accepted or rejected anytime in-between.

I interview at UIC on Monday...any suggestions?

The interview wasn't very stressful. You are in a room with 3 interviewers, mine was 2 MD or PhD's and a student who took turns asking me questions. They were nice. Too bad I'm on hold post-interview. 🙁

Mine was v. stressful. Four people firing questions at me. Hopefully yours will be better.

UIC reviews applications in "chunks" that are random. you are randomly grouped into a group with about 20 total applicants. then they pick a fraction to accept/waitlist/reject from that group. then they move on to the next "chunk" that kinda sucks because you could end up in a group where you're the stud or a group where you're on the lower end. but in any case, a certain number of people get in right after interviewing, another group are acceptable pending space, and then others get flat out rejected. if no decision has been made on your applicaiton yet you are under consideration as per your last review but they won't review your app until the next meeting (around the 15th of every month) and decide what to do with you. that continues until about may when they take all the people who are still under consideration and rank them based on points into a waitlist. then they send you a letter saying where you are on the waitlist roughly (1st,2nd,3rd, or 4th quartile). 1st and 2nd quartiles have a good shot at getting in off the waitlist, 3rd+ is shady, but still doable, if you're in the 4th quartile, sorry. 🙁 anyway, i wish you guys good luck. if you guys have any questions about UIC send me a PM i'd be happy to answer questions.

The "chunks" thing is pretty interesting. How sure are you that the process is actually how you described it? I'm not questioning your integrity here...I'm sure you know much more about the process than I do. I just think it's a little strange because it's clearly not a very efficient way of getting the best students for the school. What do you think? Do you know how the school justifies it?

Actually, it does make sense I mean, how long would it take to go through every app one at a time and vote? We're talking hundreds, maybe 7-8 hundred applicants to consider. Any other thoughts about "chunks"?
