Does University of Washington only accept Washington residents?

I hope this is not a dumb question. I know someone who said that the University of Washington only accepts either Washington residents or residents of states that do not have a med school. Is this true, and if so, are there other medical schools like this?

Yes, only residents, MDPhD, states w/o med schools, and "disadvantaged" students, which they decide for you after you apply as disadvantaged.

It's 99% true, except for MSTP applicants. They tend to accept residents to heavily from the WWAMI region because none of the other 4 states have med schools, and they want the physicians they train to practice in those areas.

Check out the MSAR or the US news and world report. I made this mistake last year and wasted some money on applying to schools that took little to no out-of-staters. Yeah, its sucks

alabama (both), arizona, CT, east TN, univ of TN, Univ of Fl, Univ of S. Fl, mercer, kansas, hawaii, southern Il, indiana, lousiana (new orleans and sheveport, univ of MS, Duluth, Mississippi, Misouri, nabraska, nevada, Univ of new jersey, buffalo, NM, North, south and East Carolina, northeastern ohio, North and south dakota, medical college of georgia, TX: A&M, Tech, univ of washington, West Virginia
i am from cali so i'm not, sure but i think UCs accept mostly instate

some of those dont take any and some take very few.

My entering class at UW has between 3-5 (we don't really ask) non-WWAMI, non-MSTP students out of 168.

add arkansas and oklahoma to that list. both only accept oos students who have strong ties to the state and generally wind up with maybe 5 people in each class from oos. ohsu, on the other hand, is very friendly to oos students. in fact, they make up at least 40% of each class there.

Utah gets added to the list as well. Again, you can be technically out of state, but must have strong ties (family, own property, etc).
