Hi everyone!

As it's officially secondaries season, I was wondering if the timeframe of when we receive secondaries matter. For instance, let's assume that Applicant A and B both submitted their primary app on the same day. If Applicant A receives secondaries from a school earlier than Applicant B, does that mean anything? Like does Applicant A will have a higher chance of getting in than Applicant B?

Thank you and good luck everyone! 🙂

Depends on the school. Many places will automatically give secondaries to everyone that applies, or to everyone that meets certain GPA/MCAT cutoffs. Some schools heavily screen though (like the UCs) and I suppose getting the secondary sooner would be a good sign in that case, sort of like getting an earlier interview would be at most places.

Applications are NOT processed in the order in which they're received.

Also, secondaries are a tax on the hopelessly naive, if not pathologically optimistic.

So does this mean the order in which applicants receive secondaries is random and doesn't imply anything?

Its not random; it is based on whatever process and procedures the school has adopted.
However, at most schools, it is not related to the academic review of applicant's primary application
Good to know! Thank you!

Different schools have different priorities for candidates. URM, legacies, in-state residents, mission-committed, veterans all may go to the top of the pile.

Even from schools that send secondaries to all applicants?
