Currently a Freshman at the University of Arkansas but the environment is just not for me; too many people and sorority girls. I love the classes and have a 3.8 GPA (B from Architecture Lecture). So far, I have 10 honors credits with all A's and working on 7 more hours. Took english and Calc 1 through a community college in high school. My problem is that I'm thinking about switching to a smaller university, Missouri Southern State University, to be in an environment more fitting for me and closer to home. Will this hurt my chances of getting into Medical if I keep high GPA and do volunteering and shadowing opportunities. Currently volunteering/ shadowing a pediatrician 6 hrs/week.

go for it. the most important thing is that you are happy. that way you can focus on grades, mcat, and extracurriculars. if you get great grades it doesn't matter where you graduated from.

Yes! You get screwed if you go to tougher college.

My formula:

Community College + 29 or above MCAT = Acceptance state schools most of the times.

UArk may have better pre-med advising. Does it do committee letters?

You say that you love your classes at UArk, so I'm not sure that transferring is a great idea, especially since you'd be "transferring down". That may not look good.

Is it a social concern? Do you feel like you're not making friends (your sorority girl comment)? Join some serious clubs and you'll likely find more students like you. As you move further into pre-med pre-reqs, you're going to find more serious students. Flakey students are more rarely found in Ochem and Physics with Cal.

What is your major?

If you have good GPA and MCAT trust me the smaller college will not hold you back.

Agreed! Do not underestimate the benefits that can come along with going to a larger school (especially if it writes committee letters). Joining academic clubs will likely help you find some like-minded individuals.
Lastly, from experience, I have to warn that the grass isn't always greener...I transferred schools looking for a better environment. Come to find out, the same idiots go to every school. 🙂 Unless you are absolutely miserable and it's affecting your overall happiness and ability to succeed in school, choose the school that offers you the best benefits.

Where you go to college is irrelevant.

Nope.

My professor's colleague was an adcom and he said that they give "special consideration" to Ivy League applicants because they have demonstrated that "they work harder".

Not all adcoms are made the same
