I'm currently in a course I really don't want to be in (can't even understand the damn teacher so I have to teach it all to myself anyhow). I've been accepted and don't need it (it's not a pre-requisite or anything) for vet school, so if I drop it, will the vet schools I've been accepted to rescind their invitations?

I've past the 'drop without academic penalty' date, but can still drop with academic penalty. Would that just put a 'W' on my transcript? And would the schools care?

Nope. Not unless completing the course was a condition of acceptance.

Contact the schools and confirm, just in case. easiest way is via email, then keep a copy of the email.

however, it isn't likely to affect much.

As for what the 'penalty' will be on your transcripts, you will have to talk to your school about that.

Nah, it shouldn't matter if the course isn't required for admission. I'd shoot them a quick e-mail them to double-check though, just to be safe.

I don't see why it would matter. Vet schools don't require a spring transcript (that I know of), so they should never even KNOW about the dropped class.

Really? they don't? I wonder why the one I attend does and can decline a previous acceptance if performance is sub par or questionable in the last semester? Oh, maybe it is because every school is different and the vast majority of individuals don't know all the rules for all the school every year (since they do change!)

Always ask those in charge when you have an acceptance. the majority of the time it is fine but you need to know, just in case. each school is different.

You may not have intended it to sound that way, but you were very much being a smartass with that response. Just saying.

lol this is so funny. Why do i feel like every question someone has about anything, the answer is always "check your schools". But yes, would you really want to take a chance?? One phone call could make the difference of you being a vet next year or looking for a job. always, always double check!

I called my school to get a confirmation of acceptance (because i hadnt received a hard copy or email yet, just phone call) and i didnt want to cancel another interview w/o proof. You never know what will happen! They didnt seem to mind at all, they faxed over my acceptance letter right after I called.

I'm sure it will be ok though 🙂 but just check first!

Mild sarcasm is how I respond to people who treat 'vet school' as a single entitiy where everything is the same, regardless of location, person, school, etc. Particularly if the advice could cause potential problems for the OP due to inaccuracy, and I know that there are exceptions. While asking on here can help, in reality, the school the OP is applying to could care less about the advice we give; what they say is what will go, hence why the fairly standard advice is 'if you have a specific question regarding administration, admissions, etc, ask the school.' And maybe being fatigued preparing for midterms has reduced my threshold a little bit. 🙂

Like everyone said, I would check with the school, but I have personally dropped 3 courses that I didn't need in order to work full-time and Ohio said it was fine.

Well I was gonna check any how but I figure we've cycled through pretty much any question that could potentially be asked about vet school here on the forum, so someone might know definitively.

Yes, but seeing as how I disclosed my comment by saying I wasn't entirely sure, I don't feel the sarcasm was warranted (and certainly not appreciated).

Fair enough! 😀

oman here we go with the sarcasm stuff again. im sry i thought it was funny hopefulag/primalmu. i guess i just read things differently compared to who says it. since sumstorm is a regular i figured it was more to be comical than actually bash people. but i do think that just saying "no it wont matter" is bad advice since we all know some schools can be different and i wouldnt want something bad to happen to a fellow SDNer just because people werent as anal about specific school rules. anyway... 😀
