Does your medical school or residency program support PDAs (Handheld Computers)?

Please feel free to leave comments on any of the following.
  1. Are PDAs integrated with your hospital or academic information systems?
  2. Do you have wireless access or synchronization stations for PDAs?
  3. Are back-up procedures or other maintenance tasks for PDAs well-documented and/or automated?
  4. Is there a PDA training program and/or formal evaluations to assess your proficiency?
  5. Is there a set of software applications that your program supports?

My school has wireless access, and we were supposed to get PDA's this year, but they couldn't get the one they had narrowed the selection down to working with the University-mandated security software. They dragged their feet so long that we're just waiting for the new gen. next year. 🙁 We have formal training, bundled software, and a mandatory minimum of one sync with the university system each week. They have tracking software to study how we use our PDA's.

Thanks for the reply. What apps are in the bundled software you use?

Hello

My institution has wireless access, they let notebooks and PDAs connect to it but only to the intranet where no clinical data is available (and internet). So not very helpful.

Similar situation at our school. The residents have access to clinical data through wireless PDAs. But not the medical students.

Our institution allows wireless connection for intranet/internet but not to patient data. But there is no specific PDA support for applications.
Thanks mpp.

Anyone else out there want to share about PDA support at their medical school or residency program? Thanks.

At our medical school nearly the entire building is wifi, and the teaching hospital's library is all wifi. No official support on any apps though.
