I am taking my beagle to the vet next week for his condition but in the mean time I wondered what ideas anyone might have regarding his symptoms.

He is 10 y/o and has all of his vax, is on p.o. heart worm prevention, has topical flea prevention, and had a recent (July) normal fecal exam.

Over the last few months his lips, eyelid margins, anus, and prepuce have become increasingly depigmented. They used to be dark black, and now they are pink with black mottling. His nose is normal and black. In July, when I picked him up from the kennel, he had conjunctivitis and since then his mucous membranes have developed inflammation, crusting, and there are even parts of his lips and anus that are bloody and weepy. In addition he has had some random scabs appear on his trunk, hindquarters and today I picked 3 scabs off of his head.

This increasing inflammation and crusting has me concerned and so I am taking him in. I am keeping the areas clean and debriding the crusties. What do you think could be wrong with my poor dog? Infection? Auto-immune? Ugh.

TIA for any replies.

Of course it's anyone's guess without seeing the dog, but it sounds auto-immune to me (like Lupus: pemphigus/-goid etc. vs. systemic) - or it could be dermatitis or allergic (atopy or food allergies for example). Certainly something that a vet would need to see. 🙂
