Hey I consistently get the most amount of questions wrong in the first passage of my exam or section test. I wanted to warm up my reading skills in the break before the RC test so I don't have this defaulting on me. Do you think it is allowed for me to do this? I just wanted to look over a passage and questions for 5 minutes before I start up again.

If I can't do this do you think reading a scientific magazine would suffice?

If they allow you to leave the test center, then you can always go to your car and do your reading practice.

you're not suppose to take things out besides food/drink during your break. kinda defeats the purpose if they allowed people to pull out review notes during a break. the best you can do is read magazines at least my center had them. they were dated though.

plus the 15 minutes goes by fast. I only went to bathroom and gatorade and after signing in and out 8 minutes had went by.

I am wondering though if you feel you have trouble with the 1st part of new sections how do you plan to tackle the pat section? there's no break at all. at least with science I guess you could mentally quiz yourself before locking things up and going in.

Try to practice with a journal article before your test... I would try not to bring in a DAT test prep book or something.

if you pull out anything and try to read it, they're going to suspect you of cheating and the stress of having to explain yourself in that inevitable confrontation is going to hurt you more than "wamring up" would have helped...that is if "warming up" even has any real effect at all. you're much better off going to the bathroom, having a drink/snack, and clearing your head so that you're mentally fresh to continue.

No its strictly RC, I'm ready to go for all other sections. I was thinking of bringing a mini RC practice test like the ones off predds and doing those in the 8 minutes allotted in the break room before the start of the test. Reading magazine articles wouldn't really help because I need to start practicing off with real questions and real material.

But dude why would they care what you do in the break room, I don't think they have any restrictions in the break period of the test do they? Anybody have the guidelines for the break portion of the DAT? I want to make sure I am not going to do any explaining for my actions during that time period.

I understand you're not studying for content, just for the sake of reading something comparable to a passage, but I'm just saying that that is what they will assume. (that's what they're supposed to assume according to the rules, I'm pretty sure.)

while the rules state you can't not look at notes only during an unscheduled break.
they also leave a lot of what is permissible up to the testing center and proctor to decide under the "rules of conduct"

item #6. http://ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_examinee_guide.pdf

by signing up to the test you agreed to this stipulation. Its like the whole touching the screen thing with PAT. No where in the guide stipulates you can't touch the screen. But if the center states no touching the screen and you do it they can ask you to leave and you're screwed.

Here's an idea....

If they don't allow you to visit your car or pull out notes from your locker during break, along with the fact that they check your pockets, how about printing out your reading comp practice on a sheet of paper or two, folding it up, and sticking in your sock. Then you can pull it out in the bathroom and sit on the toilet while reading it and pretending you're taking a dump.

Hahaha D you are going to be looking awfully suspicious with your bulging socks due to your notes and your bulging pants due to your adult diapers. You sure they ain't gonna catch on haha

that's why you gotta hide it good like some character that is played by a doctor in some movie with robots that recently came out. 🙂

That's right, I have to go out shopping for some diapers. I only need one, not a whole package. Anyone else wants one?

During the 15 min tutorial before the test, there is a sample RC passage with questions. I don't think they'll tell you the right answers but you could warm up with it! Also, there was a GC question during tutorial that was one of my real questions so def do them to save a few seconds later on 😀.
btw, you are allowed to go to your locker and look at notes during the scheduled break. you should call up the prometric and make sure though.
