Under the list of prereqs on Dominican's website it says:
"Three-dimensional art - e.g. ceramics (3 units) - may be satisfied via portfolio process"

What is it mean that it may be satisfied via portfolio process??

It means that instead of taking a sculpting class at a college or university for units you can submit a portfolio of some of your art (sculptures, etc.) if you do it as a hobby in your spare time.

I'm assuming that would only be an option for local applicants then? Because I'm guessing they don't want you to send them a big box of sculptures artwork in the mail that the applicant would want back eventually... Or do they just mean send photos of your work?

I fulfilled my art requirement via portfolio and I just sent them pictures of all of my art in a portfolio. I believe they wanted at least 4 artistic mediums. Larry was very helpful with my questions about the portfolio so you can always ask to see if they have changed any requirements for it.

Smalk hit it right on the head. Yup, by portfolio I meant photos of your sculptures/other media in a folder, it's a lot more portable.

"Portfolio" pretty much always means photos, in every setting. (One of my two majors in college was art.)

I don't know anything about this university, but I think that's really interesting that they require this. (I just spent the morning watching an OT who works in hand therapy "sculpt" splints, which was kind of fascinating.) I feel well-suited with my double major in psychology and art, which I just did (over a decade ago now) because I was interested in each subject, and had no thoughts at the time of combining the skills in any way. It has surprised me how much these two different subjects have bearing on OT practice.

I applied to Dominican and was accepted. I took a ceramics class and I just posted pictures on a word document and sent it out that way. Nothing too fancy but about 10 photos of my work in progress and finished products.
