So we got a donation from a patient asking us to pay for people who cant afford their meds.

Long story short, although i am grateful, also worried about the ramifications. Wouldnt this be same as waiving copays if money is already deposited into pharmacy bank account and meds are basically paid by the pharmacy?

Im think we need to let the donor pay for a certain amount when needed so pharmacy money is nowhere near involved. Thoughts?

I have had this come up a few times in retail. There was a doc in town that left with me a 500 dollar gift card and he would text me when he wanted to use it for his patients. I also had people leave cash for lesser fortunate patients. I left the cash/gift cards in the Cii cabinet and used it whenever it was appropriate. When the pharmacy got shut down I just drove the remainder over to the clinic and gave it to him. We ended up going to lunch that day and he used the gift card for it.. haha

I didn’t worry about it and I didn’t make a big deal about it - I just let it happen.

Just don’t be stupid about it and it will be fine. (I say that kindly, I have no reason to actually believe your stupid)

As for your company policies and procedures I have no idea what you can and can’t do and I would caution you to understand your company policies - especially when it comes to cash handling. Ask your direct supervisor
