So I finally took the DAT after postponing it several times.
I need some advice:

GPA:
BCP:3.38
Overall: 3.47

DAT:
PAT:17
QR:15
RC:15
Bio:18
G.Chem:18
O.Chem:17
TS:18
AA:17

I've applied to 15 schools. The 15s are really low but do you guys think that I may still have a chance? Should I retake in 90 days? Please be honest..no sugar coating.

I was very dissapointed with the RC section. I was scoring really well on the practice exams and I thought that that was one of my strongest areas. But, I was surprised that the RC was nothing like the practice exams. You had to look for the info. and then translate what it was saying. On the practice exams, all you have to do is look for the info. and bam! the answer is right there! I used the Kaplan method which has always worked for me but I just felt that the RC was very different from the practice tests.

Anyway, can you guys please tell me about my chances? Also, thank you to those who posted about the sea urchin and bicarbonate 😀

To be honest with you, you should retake only for RC. I had 12 on my first and just had 17 yesterday. I called admissions offices, some of them have minimum 16-17 on each catagories for example, UPitt (16) and Howard (17). Only Meharry don't have mininum score.
However, just apply with your score b/c i had an interview with UNC and BU with my first score. Some of school maybe look at your AA/TS/PA.
Good luck

if these were my stats, i would plan to retake the DAT in 90 days if i didn't get any interviews in the next 60 days (i.e. nothing by mid to late december).

if you take this advice, don't hit the books right away. give yourself a little break before you dive back into things so you don't burn out. you know your weaknesses now so make sure you concentrate on them this time around.

best of luck!

Hahaha. Kimsaekyu meant to retake the DAT just so that I can improve on the RC--i'm sure he/she knows that you can't just take one section. Thanks for all the responses. Has anyone with similar stats gotten an interview or rejection? If possible, can you guys post minimum DAT scores for any schools that you know. Thanks.

i'd retake it if i were u. 17's are just average... the number of applicants this year brings some stiff competition.. and yeah some schools automatically throw out ur application w/ a score lower than 15 on any section.

On the Tufts website they say a min of 15 in each section.

sorry, i was bit off. here it is directly from Tufts admssions website:

DAT requirement:

Test must be completed after June 1, 2003; applicants are strongly encouraged, though, to complete it before January 1, 2006;
Minimum scores:

15 Academic Average

14 Perceptual Ability

15 Total Science

Additional Requirement:
A minimum of 30 hours observing/assisting in a general dentist's office

Thanks howui3! Greatly appreciate it

You will have to retake it. You need to get rid of those 15's. Good luck.

Please be advised that those numbers on Tufts website are totally B.S.
go under statistics of incoming class on Tufts website where you find (close to real) numberss on thehttp://www.tufts.edu/dental/student_admissions/dmdstats.html DAT.

2 years ago you might had a chance with 17 but no anymore study hard and retake it.
Good luck
