Hey everybody, it's my first time posting on the forum. Usually I just look around on what everybody says since I don't know much about these dental school stuff. I just wanted to say thank you guys for all the great inputs. Anyway, I just finished the DAT today and here is the scores... I don't know if this is good or bad so I need you guys' honest opinion 😀

PAT 20
QR 19 (WHAT)
RC 19 (english ain't my first language 😳)
Bio 20
GChem 22
Ochem 20
AA 20

Overall I think it's a little bit above the average, but I don't know if i'm going to be competitive enough if I want to stay in the New York area... or maybe MA... Also, I'm an international student, and I don't know if that's going to hurt my chance of getting into dental schools in general. I know UPenn accepts more Int'l students in general but man, with this score I'm not sure if I should apply...

My thoughts on the BIG TEST? Hmm biology section was a lot more than just recalling simple fact. I got hung up on studying the classification stuff at the end and sort of forgot my other stuff for bio... But there were questions that are not very clear cut... Don't get too absorbed reading all the words in those wordy bio questions, I lost some significant amount of time doing that. Gen chem was pretty nice I liked it. There weren't many calculations for you to carry out, mainly just numerator/denominator numbers. There was this question with the numbers coming out funny and I swear the test makers didn't edit the test and screw it up! 😡 Orgo is my worst subject of the 3 sciences, so i'm glad to get a 20 =)
For the PAT... it weren't too bad, except for the foldings! During my 7 practice tests that I took, the folding part is usually a breeze. However, on the real thing, the foldings were a lot more tricky and you sould watch out for it! And the QR! I'm totally shocked at the QR section! I generally score 22-24 for the QR on my practice test, but this QR... man it was not pretty!

Anyway, I just wanted to share the DAT experience with you guys since you've been so helpful in giving feedback to others and helping others. I totally love the fact that you guys are not vicious or backstabbing like some of the cut-throat classmates I have had... Let's help each other succeed in getting into dental school 😛... if i'm lucky enough~

Nice scores. Can you tell us how was the RC? English is not my first language neither. How were the passages compare to the practice tests? I know there are more thinking questions than siting details right?
Thanks a lot.

yeah the RC section were pretty similar with the practice tests from both kaplan and topscore. There were couple ""tone of author"" type of question so I had to read a little bit more in depth. Overall it wasn't too different from the practice. good luck to ya! 🙂

I live in NYC, and I'm curious, where did you take the test?
Congrats on those scores, I'm so stoked for you, you're more than fine, & I'm shooting for similar scores or higher, which is better for me, now go party, woot!!! 🙂

Thanks speeddater. I took the test @ 3rd street between 42 and 43. It was a nice environment and pretty friendly staff there. The funny thing about the test center was the waiting area... there were tissue box on every table next to those seat... I wonder if those are for tears (of joy hopefully) HMMM 😀. How's the DAT cramming coming for you? Hope you're doing fine. Let me know if you have any more questions! us new yorkers stick together through this process! haha

Sorry, one more question about RC, the length of the passages were similar to the practice exams also?
Thank you once again.

yeah the RC passages were pretty similar to practice test. there were 3 passages, each are about 10-15 paragraphs. Some were pretty general and you have to guess it. but overall the practice test were pretty good preparation, no worries! =)

I am sure that if your GPA is around 3.5 Science, you will be just fine. I just wanted to know how did u study for the Reading and bio part. I really need your advice b/c English is also my second language.

israel21 is ur primary language Hebrew. Im israeli myself and i dont find many israeli dentists haha. thats tight tho...

I'm scheduled to take it at that testing center (near Grand Central.) What kind of scrap paper were you given?

Great scores by the way! Congrats!!

how does the screen look like for the RC? Is it like topscore or archiever? How big is the box that contains the passage?
thanks.
