Hello all,

I just took my DAT on Friday. So here I am to share my scores and experiences with you all. As you can see from below, my scores are very polarized that I don't know if I should be happy about my scores or mourn about it.....

AA 22 96.1
BIO 25 99.9
GC 19 75.0
OC 23 93.9
PAT 18 66.8
QR 24 97.6
RC 18 38.9
TS 22 96.6

BIO: I was pretty shocked when I see the Bio score. I thought I really messed up on this section because I was so nervous throughout the science sections and PAT that I can actually feel my hands are shaking(seriouly!). Not only that, because I was so nervous I was reading each bio questions two or sometimes even three times before I understand what they are asking.......I felt my head was a blank. Therefore, I ended up with only less than 10 min at the end of science sections ( I used to have 20 min left on topscore practice). I was very lucky to end up with a 25. Content wise, I felt the questions covers really board areas. A few genetics (not very hard), a few taxa, phylum, a few neuro, excretory, digestive, and a couple of crazy questions( I haven't never seen these crazy questions before and really have to guess)

GC: I'm very disappointed with my Gchem score 🙁 I was doing very well with Gchem on topscore, and kaplan tests. I don't know why they turned out so low. Although the 25 on Bio should have made me very happy, seeing the 19 on chem just made me want to cry........I thought this is the section that I should do best at.......Anyway, regarding the content, I thought it wasn't too bad. It's definately much less calculations than topscores. And I thought they were easy......I guess I was wrong 🙁

OC: Now, this is the biggest surprise for me! I have never really understood OChem, and my 2 semesters of Ochem grades were the lowest grades that I had on my transcript. In addition, for the three topscores tests, I have only gotten 16, 17, 16 ....so I was hoping to get a 18 on the real DAT.......but I got 23! I was so surprised. So if anyone is getting frustrated on Ochem, don't! Because if I can do it, then you can too! And I really want to take this chance to thank everyone on this forum who has answered my numerous ochem questions very patiently. I dont' think I can score so high on this section without you guys' help. Thank you! For those of you who still haven't taken the DAT, just make sure you study all the reactions in the Kaplan book. Trust me, that's all you need to know for the Ochem section. There were a few SN and E reactions, a few lewis acids, a few radical, a few oxidation and reductions. It wasn't bad at all.

PAT: Yeah, as you can see, I didn't do too well on this. The angles were harder, and I thought a few of the Aparture ones were hard too. I didn't use anything to measure the angles becuase i was afraid that they'll say I was cheating (since the official rule of DAT stated that and they do have cameras in the test center. ) Other than these, all other sections were like the topscore.

RC: Hum.....I was never good at reading, so I was expecting the 18. I'm a slow reader and I don't remember what I read under speed reading situations unless I write down something to help me remember, so I took some notes. I read the passage for 10 min and took notes, and then answer the questions. The passages wasn't too bad, but some questions require you to think about it before answering(ex. what's the tone of the author? what does the author suggests?)

QR: If you took all three of the topscore tests, then you should be fine with this section. There were a few probabibly questions, but very simple ones, sin/cos (easy ones), and lots of algebra (just canceling and reducing).....overall, it wasn't bad at all if you practice on topscore.

My study methods: I studied out of the Kaplan book(went through it twice), took the kaplan diagnostic, and final that I borrowed from a friend(I didn't take the kaplan course), and used my college textbook for reference. Then the week before the real test, I started doing the topscore test every other day, and go over "all" the questions make sure I know why I got it right or wrong. I think this is important because sometimes you could be lucky and guessed a question right, but you don't know why you got it right. So it's important to go back and make sure you really know it.

Suggestion for future DAT takers: Get a nice sleep (at least 7-8 hours), and eat some snak during break. And most importantly, try not to be nervous! ( I wish I could've calm down when I was taking the sciences and PAT....)

Lastly, I really want to thank everyone in the forum again for posting their questions and answers. I don't think I would have those scores if it wasn't you guys. Thanks!!! 🙂

congrats sherry....i think you should just relax and take it easy....and thank you so much for giving us some info for our turn....mine is in september...im so scared...🙂 thanks!

Awesome scores!! Definitely shouldnt be crying, unless its tears of joy.

Can you share your topscore scores? If you dont remember the exact numbers, do you remember the general scores you were getting in the science sections?

Those are some awesome scores! Thanks for sharing your experience. 🙂

I'll post my topscores later. I don't have it with me now. My scores are on another computer. If anyone has questions regarding DAT please feel free to PM me or post message here.

Here are my topscore results, I took those a week before my test.

OCh 16 17 16
PAT 23 21 21
OR 19 20 19
RC 17 20 19

Hope this helps!

I don't think your scores are terribly polarized at all. They are awesome, and if you think you should cry over them, perhaps you should get outside a bit more  . I'm sure you'll have a good admissions cycle.

I don't know about anybody else, but stop stroking this girl or guys ego. Give me a break!

You have to be pretty naive to think that your not going to get into dental school this year.

Go out an have a beer! lose some more brain cells.
