hey guys,
thanks for your help in my previous threads asking help on DAT. I am finally done with DAT. I got 22 on academic average and 18 on PAT. My PAT is a bit low, but hopefully it'll ge good enough. My eyes hurt after 4.5 hrs of starring at the monitor. As expected, there was a few random bio q's. If you are interested in what type of bio q's are asked, feel free to PM me.

Hey everyone,
I just thought I wanna add a lil more feedback about the test. I took the test at Culver City, in sunny socal. The test condition was pretty good. They provide ear plugs and plenty of scratch paper. The resolution of the computer I used was excellent, I didn't expect to be like TopScore quality. I noticed they were using pretty new Compaq computers with 17" monitors. So for any of you guys in socal, you might consider taking it there.

Hope that's helpful for u guys.

Mary-

Didn't I tell you that you would rock this exam. You whooped some butt, girl. Those are scores that could get you into UCSF and UCLA two of the hardest schools in the US, let alone California. I'm glad that one of my 'pupils' rocked this exam.

PS: PM me and tell me in FULL detail.

Mary,

Congrats on such an excellent score.
Hey, I hope you followed my method. Tell me if it was my way or desi that you have such a great score, okay. We're competing to see who is DAT expert here.

You'll get in so many schools that you won't know which one to pick. I took the test in South San Fran, Oyster Point Blvd, the building looks good but the test room was pretty bad. Test takers were noisy, test proctors were noisy. And they only gave 6 pages of scratch paper at a time. In the middle of my test, another computer crashed and that test taker was so panic. He was unbelievable loud. The room was freaking cold, and then hot. I could even hear the AC runs. Very unpleasant experience at Oyster Point.
Just so you guys stay away from it.

HI tink,
Basically I did a search on the past tips posted on studying for DAT, saw your posting for the math part and I did that for my test, which definitely helped, there were 4 trig q's on my exam.
Math was easier than Kaplan's and Topscores, I finished with few mins to spare. I did the practice tests I bought from Desi over and over again (Kaplan one's), real one was easier I have to say, so that paid off 🙂 As for reading, I did what Desi told me, just skim and found key words. PAT was really not as bad as I thought it would be, the hole punching was very similar to TopScore's hole punching, some had one hole punch in it, some had two hole punch ( I heard my friend had one with four punches). Maybe I just got lucky, the angel weren't too bad, had a few really hard to distungishable ones but others were fairly okay. Just like TopScores, but a bit harder. Nonetheless, I have to thank you two for helping me out throughout this process!!

Hi Mary,

I'm glad my math method worked for you. Many people like it. Trig can be annoying in crunch time.
Any way, it's over, start working on your application now. Write the essay and get lor.
Good luck

hey my DAT is tommorrow morning. And it's for THIS YEAR!!!

Anyway, at least I feel pretty darn confident for the most part. I'm just worried about logistics, like running out of time, getting stuck, missing obvious questions and making little errors.

The post about the computer crashing and unruly test takers has me worried.

Anyway, if you are here, what surprise questions came up (on all sections)? Thanks. I'll be SO GLAD when it's over!!!

PS; i posted this before, but how long does it take for the schools to receive scores? is there any way to fax them or something?

At this time just relax and get a good night sleep. You shouldn'y be worrying about anything on the test, all your preparation will pay off. Get a good night sleep and eat a full breakfast. You will do great. Get off this site and go watch some TV and relax.

I didn't have any surprise question on my DAT. I was paranoid and studied straight from old text books in the last month.

DAT scores usually takes about 15 days to get to school. Please call each school and tell them your scores, then ask them if they want it to be faxed.

GOOD LUCK

Hey, Tinkerbell, I have a temple interview on the 31st, any tips? I heard about the essay, what's that about?

Hey, congrats on your Temple interview. There is nothing to worry about the Temple essay. You have 30min to write a one page essay, there are lots of questions. And one is about the healthcare thing (I forgot). It's relatively easy and every one finished early, so don't fret about it.
Temple interview is fun and relaxing. It's quite entertaining indeed. Mark does have some good stuff about dentistry to tell.

Good luck with both interview and DAT

As Tink said, the essay is nothing to worry about. They pass out a stack of papers with different topics to write about. If you don't like your question grap another one. My first one was on HMOs in dentistry. I really didn't like that one so I grabbed another which was "Does a person with HIV have a responsibility to tell their dentist of their infection?". Good luck!

Tink....I PM you!

Hey EcoR1, I PMed you back.
Know what? I got the same essay question like you too. The HIV one. It was funny because I just read about it in the book "Ethical question in Dentistry". So, the book is definitely helped.
There are about 4 or 5 questions of the day. Many people have the same questions.

Hey Tink.
I was also excited to get the HIV question. I'm currently taking and HIV/AIDS course so it's something I was up on.
Take care.
